Don't tell the other half, I treated myself to a rare programme it is a single sheet issue for wigan v Manchester north end (the now defunct club). It isn't the normal wigan issue due to the holiday period.
Can anyone shed any light on this club as there is next to nothing on the Internet.
Did any of the lineup make it with other clubs?
Scan given, any advice appreciated.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Manchester North End F.C. was an association football club based in Manchester, England. The club was founded in 1922 as New Cross F.C. and joined the Lancashire Combination, before changing its name the following year. In the 1924–25 season, Manchester North End left the Lancashire Combination and entered the Cheshire County League, where they remained until 1939, when the club folded.

During the club's existence, Manchester North End participated in the FA Cup, England's foremost cup competition, on several occasions, reaching the fourth qualifying round twice.

Brief details of all their appearances vs Macclesfield from 1924-1939 on Macc's archive website.

Also numerous players who have played for both clubs in the player profile section, however it doesn't look like any of the line up shown above were included.

I think Manchester Central FC fit that description better, their application to join the League in 1932 was accepted initially but then both City and United complained and the application was rejected.

From the Association of Football Statisticians non league annual of 1983, it would appear that North End were members of the Manchester League between the wars. In the 1920's they won the league in 1924-5, and were runners up the following season. They won their second title in 1936-7.

Other teams who graced the Manchester League were the likes of New Mills - record title winners with ten, Hyde Utd, Altrincham, Macclesfield, Glossop and Northwich Victoria.

Here I am and got some original information to share.

mcfc56 is quite correct in that it was Manchester Central not Manchester North End that attempted to gain entry into the League in the early 1930's.

Here is the original letter Central's Chairman sent to all the football league clubs and the football league and accompanying is the original application, all very fascinating stuff. Manchester United were the poor relations in 1932 to Manchester City[as they are to this day financially speaking] and it was United's more so than City's concern that MUFC would get affected even though Central's ground was closer to City, an interesting read for sure.....

And here i am as well.

As soon as people hear Manchester they believe there is an association with United(or City)

This club ,as has been pointed out,had nothing whatsoever to do with either.

Similarly there is sometimes thought to be an association with another local amateur club called Newton Heath Loco but again there is no connection.

Where there is however a mysterious connection is with a local amateur club called Goslings who were a very strong amateur side in Manchester around the second world war time .
It is possible they were the Manchester equivalent of The Corinthians.
They certainly fed a more than average number into Manchester United and Manchester City.

Nobody at Manchester United will talk about what happened.
I am privileged in as much as i have a strong working relationship with the Manchester United museum and they won't talk.
Rumour has it that Manchester United were writing "expense" cheques for the Goslings who then got greedy and demanded more.

United cut them off and i believe they folded.
OK

On a different note if you wish to see some quality Manchester United items please feel free to take a look at the worlds largest Manchester United collection on

www.flickr.com/photos/63580000@N04/sets

I have just loaded some autographs up including the autographs of the first Manchester United championship winning team of 1908/09.

I am stumped on a couple of them so any help from other forum members would be appreciated

Also loaded up some rare stewards badges believed to be from the 1920's and 1930's

Enjoy!!
Very Happy Very Happy

Manchester United were originally formed in 1878 by a group of railways workers employed by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railways who worked at the Newton Heath wagon works all of which is common knowledge to everyone or is available to anyone who ever cared to look for it.

However in subsequent years when after 1902 when Newton Heath changed it's name to Manchester United there was a local Manchester club who were known as Newton Heath Loco and played in the local leagues.
Manchester United who ran several teams would have one of their sides notably the "colts" another name for the "A" or "B" teams that would compete each season locally, i am attaching a programme for a very rare issue of a Newton Heath Loco programme versus Manchester United 1950 and the game was played at Ceylon Street and this is where Steve at Derby1884 poses the question, who was therefore Manchester Northern[who also played at Ceylon Street], well i would suggest it was a new club formed after the NH Loco folded up. In fact about 10-12 years ago a chap called me to say he owned the ground where United used to play!-it turned out it was the NH Loco ground[Ceylon Street] and he had purchased it to buld homes on it, i had to let him down gently when he thought he could sell some crumbling old stand and some wood worm goal posts as they had NO connection to Manchester United!.
This is a programme that was once owned by a former MUJAC[Manchester United Junior Athlectic Club] player and i cannot imagine there being another around all these years later but in collecting circles you never know as if there is one then there may well be two!

As for Manchester Northern as a club today, i have no idea if they are still in existence.
