Hi Lads,

As many of you will know, Middlesbrough produced two different covers for most of their home games during the 08/9 season. It's a controversial move that has raised a lot of discussion. However looking through my collection, I notice that I have a few Middlesbrough away programmes that have 2 different covers produced for the same game. They are as follows at:

CARDIFF 73/4
NOTTS FOREST 80/1
OXFORD 84/5
DONCASTER 86/7 (same cover, but different colours)
BARNSLEY 87/8 (same cover, but different colours)

Does anybody know of any other Middlesbrough away programmes where two different covers were produced for the same game? (Not counting postponements)

Cheers,

Rocky

Hi Rocky, just slightly off topic here sorry but are Boro planning on continuing with the 2 different covers for next season?

Morning Barrett,

There's been no announcement from the club as yet, but I sincerley hope that they scrap this practice. It's already costly enough for us collectors! Crying or Very sad

I'll keep you posted.

Charlton v. Burnley 1977/78 had 3 different covers so it's obviously not a new practice!

There is a guy on ebay who states in his listings that he is looking for a programme that had 9 different covers away at Cambridge (Luton I think) from the late 70s!!

If my memory serves me well, I think Hereford also did similar in the early 70's?

I've had a red and a blue copy of a Wednesday away at hereford from 74/75 (ish), so can vouch for that.

Barnsley v Everton FA Cup 63
Oldham v Everton - one time (can't remember)

Thankfully it's not common.

Rocky,

there's a post on this forum somewhere about the double covers on your programmes. I can't remember where abouts though mate, sorry.

I know Derby produced 2 covers for their programmes for the 99-00 season to mark the Millenium (1 standard copy, one with gold lettering), not sure if Boro were in the same division as us that season though.

I Noticed that this Season that when you played Manchester City there were 2 different programme covers on sale outside the ground so as i buy for me and my godfather every game i got stung for 4 that game £12!!
i didn't know you did that all season though for the programme collectors thats double every season for the collectors of boro programmes.

Hi Rocky
Please can you confirm there are no Middlesbrough V Manchester City from any other past seasons with 2 covers as last season was the first time i noticed 2 were for sale
Many Thanks

Darren

Hi Darren,

Middlebrough produced two different covers for each league game last season, 2008/9. This was the first & only time to date that they have employed this costly practice. I will keep the board informed of what the club decide to do for the upcoming season. Luckily, whatever they decide it won't affect you.........well not until the 2010/11 season at the earliest Wink

Cheers, Rocky

Hereford United also produced two covers (at least for some games) during a season in the 70's

I have one Hereford FA Trophy game from 70-1 with three different coloured covers.. I think Gravesend did the same back in the early 60s too.
A Doncaster FA Cup game in the early 80s saw two different covers as did the Romford v Uxbridge (LCC) game in 96-7 but I only did that for a wind up... Very Happy

Leicester did 2 covers for some games in the 1974/75 season, I know that they did them for the home games against Derby, Newcastle and West Ham but there may be others.

There was another example of two issues per game (sort of) at Liverpool in 2000-01. There was an "Anfield Edition" only available at the game and a non-Anfield Edition available in newsagents across the country. I bought one or two of these in Belfast. The content was pretty much the same except the Anfield edition had "Anfield Edition" printed on the front and there were several pages of extra ads in one version or the other (the non-Anfield edition I presume). Not sure if this was done for every game that season.
