Better quickly send one over for the 19th too.......also 1966 and a scrappy 1-0 win for the Rams courtesy of Ian Buxton's second half header in front of 19,483 at Carrow Road.
Norwich move up to 10th in the table, Derby down to 7th.

I do wonder whatever became not so much of Wally Pantzer - but his midgets....

Cracking stuff, derby, but i think you'll find it was Willy Pantzer and his dancing midgets.
The show looks a riot, I'm gutted to have missed them.
Not sure, what became of them but one of them, later went onto play for Wimbledon and Chelsea and was called Dennis. |
There's something surreal about that photo!
Ever seen Tod Browning's 1932 movie "Freaks"? _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

Northampton v Coventry from 20th February 1954.
This was the Cobblers' only home defeat of the season as they went down 1-0 in front of 10,539 at the County Ground.

53 years ago...........February 20th 1960
Another 12 page issue. Price 3d
Doc Pace scores a hat-trick for the second successive round as United beat Watford 3-2. He already scored one against forest in the 4th Rd to go with the brace he'd scored against Pompey in the 3rd Rd.
The following week he scored another hat-trick against his former club a 3-1 win for the Blades at Villa Park.
There's an article asking does ' a good big un always beats a good small un'.
Adverts for Thomas Ward and Sons and Stanley tools, still going and which remarkably, I still occasionally provide them with some steel. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets

Can't explain why but, for some reason, I've always loved the design of that particular front cover.
I think it reminds me of the "cubist" movement so popular with graphic designers of the time!
(as opposed to your Sheffield rivals who were much more traditional nd conservative in their choice of design?) _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

Hmmm...I ought to get "with it"!
Anyway, here's a 2 minute blast of "Freaks" to let you know what I'm on about and how it fits in with Wally Pantzer.
Don't be scared! These poor devils were all for real....

Back 65 years and, after a run of 8 successive victories in league and Cup, lifting them from 7th to 3rd in the table, Derby travelled to Blundell Park to take on a Grimsby side languishing 5 points adrift at the foot of the table.
Perhaps the home side's struggles were reflected in the rather low gate of just 11,007 but the match was close, Derby triumphing 3-2 with goals from Jack Stamps (two) and Angus Morrison.
8 page issue for 2d with that unique "trawler's net" design on the cover. Not a great deal of reading other than the "Shots From Soccerdom" feature......though the line-ups, on the centre pages, feature the largest font size of this or, surely, any other era!

A very special and poignant programme for Barnsley fans and programme collectors. A 21 year old Tommy Taylor scored the last of his 26 goals for Barnsley on this day 60 years ago at the old Boothferry Park - he was to play one more game a week later before signing for Manchester United for £29,999 on 1st March. The game finished 2-2 with Tommy's strike partner Eddie McMorran getting the other Barnsley goal.
The programme is a standard Hull City programme from this season. Club Matters on page 3 offers sympathy to Barnsley in the loss sustained by the death of manager Angus Seed who had passed away on 7th February aged 60.
Although Barnsley managed a creditable draw, they were bottom of the table at the time and didn't manage another win all season as they finished bottom by a massive 17 points and dropped into the the 3rd Division for the third time in their history. |

Back 77 years to 1936 and a match in the 1st Division of the Tonbridge League between Whitefriars Press C&I's 'A' team and the 'A' team of Tunbridge Wells YMCA. Nice and obscure!
Can't find out anything at all on this club though their name suggests a "works" team based in Tonbridge who played in black/white striped shirts amd white shorts (though the figure on the cover suggests otherwise)
Large 4 page issue with lineups on the centre pages - only there's a blank space for their opponents so not too much help for what crowd there was at the game.

2 years ago Today........February 22nd 2011
Sheffield Club v Glapwell
40 page programme, from the division below the Northern Premier. This was the lads 40th game they'd been to.
Programme featured a memory lane page .... 149 years ago today Club recorded a 1-0 away at Norton whose ground is literally a stone throw away from the Sharrowblade residence. It was Sheffield's fourth ever game and Norton's first. Oh, and it was 18 a side.
Away Day review featured a rather critical view on Market drayton, but still was nowhere near as bad as Cheadle
There was also a brief history of Sheffield Club (all their programmes do).
The game ended 3-1 to Glapwell, with the visitors Keeper having a particularly good game despite coming from a verbal bombardment during the second half from the 'Loony Family' on Sheffield FC's Kop.
Anyone who has ever been will know what I'm talking about.
It was nearly enough to make me choke on me 'Pie, pea's and Hendo's) _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets

No visit to an East Stirling game (home or away) is complete without encountering "Mad Bill" on the terracing. Once seen (and heard) never forgotten.
There's even a YouTube video featuring him when 'Shire visited Elgin a couple of years back.

50 years ago.......February 23rd 1963
Double sided single sheet, only United's second home game of the year due to the bad winter.
Stanley Matthews played....just shy of his 48th birthday _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets
