I am trying to purchase some 1940's and 1950's FA Cup Final programmes but am aware that a number of 'reprints' of these programmes are also about. Is there a site that will assist in trying to identify the difference between original and reprint programmes at all?

Can't say I've ever heard of such a site David.

PS, Moved the thread to the "Progs you req" section as more people will see it there.

Cheers, Jamie.

I believe the 49 final was once reprinted, it has a glossy cover and is obvious due to the type of papwe. I understand the 58 final has also been reprinted but dont believe i have ever seen one.

I have seen many reprints on ebay it looks pretty obvious when a pre-50s programme looks like it's in mint condition. I think you should look round the outside of the programme rather than the face,if it's too straight and perfect it's likely to be fake, that's just my opinion though,I would trust the opinion of other more experienced members on the forum.

Always smell the paper, it's a dead give away. The old one will have a definite old smell to it, regardless of how well kept it is. Don't do this in a public place though, you may get strange looks Laughing

My wife and I were at a Rolling stones concert, the band came off when she threw her knickers on the stage, they thought the safety curtain had come down.

The 1958 FA Cup Final has been reprinted, and tends to have a photocopied
'2' next to Nat Lofthouse's name

There is a reprint of the 1964 Cup final , but God knows why as you can pick up an original for peanuts.

Check out the excellent Centre Spot website which shows a large range of 'Reprints' and 'Pirate' issues for Finals:

A number of clubs produced "memorabilia packs" a few years ago. They included reproductions of old player contracts, programmes etc. FA Cup final programmes were an obvious inclusion I suppose. Pretty sure I saw a Man City one including 1956 cup final programme v Birmingham

In the Rangers book the Waddell years, there is a reprint of the 1948 cup final and a couple of other programmes. I saw someone trying to punt the fake CWC 72 memorabilia on ebay that was also in the book.
