If it helps any FLR collectors I am lucky enough to own the bound collection of these that belonged to the editors Harry Brown and Bob Baldwin. I can therefore assist on queries with regard to issue numbers, featured teams etc. I do not however have the alternative rear covers in this collection.

is there any reason why several editions appear with different adverts on the back page, especially volume 3 and vol 8

I think that there's a single page Walsall teamgroup featured in issue 910 also.
