| FREELOADERS |
I have never classed myself as a freeloader although like everything in life you try and get the best deal that suits you.
I have paid way over the odds to dealers in the past to fill gaps in my collection because dealers catalogues were the only way to add to my collection. But now there are so many more options.
We don't have to rely on full time dealers as much as we used to.
£5.40 is probably a good price from a FULL TIME DEALER with four kids, big mortgage and an expensive wife to support. But why pay that when we can get programmes (admittedly not everyting we want) cheaper from elsewhere.
I've thrown enough money at dealers for many years so I am not going to start feeling sorry for them now. Nothing personal Barry. |

Non taken, Ive had a lot of money thrown at me over the years, and Ive spent a lot of money buying collections.
So if Man City Mark advertised in a Manchester paper for Manchester City programmes (which he would'nt because it would cost too much) from 1956/7 season..
An old boy thats had them for the past 50 years has treasured them and looked after them phones him up because he needs the money, phones him up and arranges to go round.
Err I will give you £1 each for the few I need and the rest I dont want mate... The Old boy would think they were worth at least £10 each and no sale would be done. |

to be honest if i needed anything for my collection £6 each POST FREE is a decent price and i would happily pay. If they programmes are so readily available elsewhere cheaper i would have already bought them elsewhere.
I have to partly agree with Bazza, if you buy them off ebay the chances are you would be paying up to £2 postage and you dont know what you are actually getting condition wise until they arrive. Buying from Bazza at least if you were not happy with the condition you would get a refund.
But gone are the days when dealers can expect to get top price for programmes, Ebay has opened up a whole new world, but also have to agree there are many freeloaders, not just in this hobby but in life in general. |

Get a grip Barry FFS - If I'd known you had that many kids and bills to pay I would have offered you £10 per programme !!!! A grown man pleading his case on a Internet football programme site - You couldn't make it up but hey I bet your old lady is well proud of you trying to provide for all those kids sat on your arse on here !!
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket _________________ Every Man Needs A Hobby |

Agree with Posh. You can pick up some items from ebay quite cheap but there are a lot of items that rarely turn up on ebay or if they do then they reach the same price as a dealer. So yes some items are cheaper on ebay but you can't apply that across a whole season or whole collection. Thats why we all end up with wants list that aren't readily filled from ebay.
Re freeloaders, sadly there are some on this site who are the "something for nothing brigade". Even when you offer then a good deal they try and screw a few more pence out of you. They seem to think that you got the programme for nothing or some weird notion that you owe it to them to sell it to them dirt cheap. |

I quite agree that there are quite a few "something for nothing" brigade on the forum but I do respect an individuals' right to refuse to pay what they believe to be 'exorbitant' prices. However, these individuals should not be disappointed if someone refuses to sell items to them at rock bottom prices.
It is fairly common knowledge that programmes from certain clubs will always have a higher premium than other clubs due to the higher number of collectors, it is called supply and demand. Manchester City fall into that category. ManCityMark should know this from his 1960s Wants List when City were in the 2nd Division meaning smaller print runs at away games etc. If the programmes were so readily available he wold have acquired them by now.
As for ManCityMark, I am afraid he is 'far from holier than thou'. I recently responded to his Man City 1960s Wants List, he in turned replied and I responded with prices - thereafter SILENCE
I then sent a PM stating that I assumed he was not happy with the prices quoted and that I would have appreciated a response saying so out of common courtesy, after all I did make the effort in responding to his request.
I am afraid ManCitymark has burnt his bridges with me and I will not try and assist with his Wants in future.
That is one of the downsides of gaining a reputation as a 'something for nothing merchant' - those who could assist will not bother meaning the sources where you could find programmes you need will be even more limited.
I am sure most of he older collectors on the forum will be able to give examples of where they have turn down the opportunity to buy a wanted programme because of he price being asked only to end up paying much more 2 or 3 years down the line - I know I have. |

Sadly my experiences with mancitymark have been equally "unsatisfying" even when we have managed to do a deal and it sounds like he is building a reputation on here.
Fortunately there are plenty of respectful and decent people on here. Sometimes deals have been agreed and other times not but they still managed to be respectful discussions. I suppose on any forum over time you get to know the decent ones and the chancers who just take. There are plenty of decent ones on here thank goodness and there have even been times when I have sent something to a collector absolutely free because it is a common and low cost item which they had on their wants and was no interest to me. I as others are very happy to help the decent ones and I guess eventually the something for nothing brigade get flushed out. |

How sad that someone can find criticism of bad manners, i.e. lack of common courtesy, funny!
An apology would have been more in order -for goodness sake, grow up, I don't think you are doing your case any favours whatsoever. |

Man City Mark thanks for the offer of £1.50 for each of my 1956/7 Manchester City homes.
But I dont have any kids living with me, I dont have a mortgage or money worries so i can leave your offer.

I am one of the good guys who may fall on hard times sometime in the future. Any chance you could let me have some pre 1955 Leeds for a quid on a BOGOF deal?
Thanks in anticipation. |
