Panini football superstars cards

I have aquired a complete set of Panini football superstars 'cards'. Thay are not stickers but clear plastic cards that fit into a book.

They must date from 1984 based on the teams that the England players are playing for.

I have never seen this type of Panini card before. Does anyone know anything about them? were they a one off or were they produced for a few years.? I certainly never saw these when I was a kid as it was all sticker albums as far as I can recall

I am sure there is no real value in them but it would be nice to know some info
