Post subject: DEALERS

Interesesting comments on dealers etc. I have used Mick Hewitt for many years and have nothing but praise for the guy. I used his subscriptions service when I lived abroad for 5 years. Top service at realistic prices, I have seen far higher prices from other dealers. Offers List are sometimes way over priced but you need to understand the market you are operating in to work out for yourself what is and what is not good value.

In simple terms, a programme is worth what a buyer will pay for it. However, traders like Mick know the ins & outs of what is RARE and what is not and set his prices accordingly. He specialises in Leeds Utd memorabilia and Leeds are 1 of the most collected clubs particulary from the 1950/60/70s, it is all part of the supply & demand process. Why would he reduce his prices? Those early 1960s issues are not going to get any cheaper. Leeds average attendances for the 1960/61 and 1961/62 seasons were 13,443 and 13,607 so the programme print runs were small, likewise attendances at away games were also fairly small, hence the reason why Leeds progs from that era are more expensive. Part of the thrill of collecting is hunting down those elusive issues to complete seasons/cup runs etc and usually it is dealers like Mick Hewitt who have the 'missing' prog. It is the collectors decision whether or not to cough up. I know from experience that it is best to buy when you can, I remember passing up on a Southampton vs Leeds 60/1 FLC @ £10 some years ago. That particularly prog will now cost £100 min. OK, you find the odd prog on EBay but you will never complete a collection just buying from EBay.
