It could be true, because I know someone who threw away a collection worth thousands of pounds.
ME.
It included Wolves cup final team cards (2 if my memory serves me correctly) from the 1800s, many Wolves programmes from the early 20th century, and loads of pre war Wolves home programmes.
I was only 15 at the time and not that interested in my Dads and Grandads 'junk', so out they went.
Talk about a blunder !!

In know what you mean I did the same may years ago gave away loads of programmes including the 1951 cup final (what a plonker)
now Ive started collecting again my oldest programme is Man City v Birmingham 1956 cup final

My oldest programme is Chelsea v Sheffield United 1948. I'm always on the look out for a cheap pre-war Blades programme but being a tight-fisted Yorkshireman I have difficulty clicking that buy button when the price goes above a pound!! Wink

I got a Sheffield United v Blackburn Rovers Reserve fixture from around 1923; got it for just over £20 a few years ago.

I also have a reprint vs. Derby County during our 1897/98 Division One (Premiership) winning season.

At least a £1000. If you ever want to sell it contact Michael Hewitt.

Where did you get it from?

Can you send me a scanned image to:
[email protected] please?

I've also got a Chelsea vs Leeds City from 1911-12. Might be a bit cheaper?

The GREAT Billy McLeod scored in both games!

Won't consider selling them for many years yet! Smile

Oldest one is 1899 Hull v Holbeck Rugby league.
Although my most prized programme is 1908 Hull v Hunslet, Rugby League Challenge cup final.
Small four page card programme in good condition for its age.
First ever cup final for Hull.

13/01/1990 for Stockton v Alnwick Town

I missed out on a Alnwick v Shilbottle 1950 recently which annoyed me a bit. Was waiting to get some more funds into my account and it was sold during that time.

For my Sunderland programmes I still need to put them on a spreadsheet and check, but I think I've got a few from the 70's.

So not that old yet, but hopefully it'll get there.
