It could be true, because I know someone who threw away a collection worth thousands of pounds.
ME.
It included Wolves cup final team cards (2 if my memory serves me correctly) from the 1800s, many Wolves programmes from the early 20th century, and loads of pre war Wolves home programmes.
I was only 15 at the time and not that interested in my Dads and Grandads 'junk', so out they went.
Talk about a blunder !! _________________ FPC Predictor Cup Winner 2013

With respect it sounds like a cock and bull story. Why collect all those years then throw them in the bin. People tell you all sorts of stories when you tell them you collect programmes. A mate said he had a ancient programme which was his fathers and i could have it. I was all excited and when he brought it over, it was from 1974. |
Wullie. I should have said that the guy that threw them away wasn't the person that collected them. When his grandfater passed away he found them in the loft and as he wasn't a football fan he didn't want them so after a while he chucked them out.
His face went white when I said they must have been worth a lot of money.
I can't be sure of course but the look on his face made me believe he was telling the truth. _________________ I am not gas, I am a Pirate.

1926/27 Middlesbrough v Oldham. It is an early April match , Boro had already clinched promotion to the first division in George Camsell's 59 goal season.
ex bound volume ie a few small holes down the side , spine split, pencil team changes.
It's available for exchange for ANY pre war Bolton first team home in reasonable nick. |

Grr!
Mine's 1922-23 Wimbledon vs West Norwood.
I've also got a poor photocopy of one from 1920/21 and I believe the first season we issued, 1919/20, only 2 copies of one programme is known amongst current collectors. _________________ Newest programme wanted:

Yes, arrived this morning, many thanks. Hopefully catch you at a game soon! You missed a nail-biter last night.

As usual, I keep getting side-tracked. The first attempt turned into the new style guestbook, the second try is now the forthcoming first issue of the history magazine. I've scanned in up to about 1965 now, but that's a bit of a slog as you can imagine, and put in the line-ups for a couple of seasons to test the interface. In effect I've got a working site, that still looks rubbish, and with not that much information, but it'll get there. _________________ Newest programme wanted:

Hi. What a great Site !
My oldest is Walsall Res v Wellington Town, 19.9.1903, a small single card.
I also have the West Brom Res v Wellington Town issue, dated 7.11.03 which was a Sport and Play issue.
Wellington issued regularly from the start of the 1919/20 season, but cards were possibly issued earlier than this. |

Hi All
The oldest programme i have in my collection is Arsenal v Accrington Stanley which was for a friendly which was played on Jan 13th 1894. Whether this programme is worth the most out of my collection is hard to say, as i have never seen another Arsenal programme from this era come up for sale.
Any views on how much you fellow F.P.C members think it might be worth?. |

A 1891 Arsenal v Gainsborough Trinity programme sold for hammer price £4600 at Budds auction house in 2006, so close to £5500 with the fees added, i would expect the match programme against Accrington to be worth similar money,

Similar thing happened to me. I collected hundreds of Leeds programmes (home and away) throughout the 50's along with England games, FA Cup Finals, The Wolves televised games plus the early Man U European games. Alongside my thousands of autographs (Buchans annuals etc) my Mun decided to burn them after I had left home and got married.
I was not a happy bunny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
