All seems a bit murky

Bobby used to give away his England caps to anyone who asked so it's entirely possible he gave his shirt to some bloke who fixed his car or cleaned his windows

Also missing apparently is the shirt worn by Pele in 1970 which he swapped with Bobby Moore at the end of the game - kept in the same carrier bag up in the attic...

very murky and I'm not surprised the current owner is remaining private.

Quite possible as you say that Bobby gave it away or sold it privately. Quite possibly stolen by somebody working on the house at some point.

It would be an expensive legal case.

Also a really interesting one. I suspect all of us have something in our collection that is questionable no matter how innocent.

I don't want to go into details but a low value ticket I purchased cheaply at auction before COVID was actually my father's ticket for a game passed on when I didn't collect tickets. Other items from that collection made substantial sums. I didn't buy anything else but know many of the others who did. None of us knew until after the auction it was the collection of a deceased collector and I immediately knew it was actually the ticket I'd sent him at the time.

Now I heard this month that the collection was sold by the in-laws of the deceased without the knowledge or consent of the immediate family.

The collection has been well split and sold on even since the auction. The auctioneer certainly acted in good faith as obviously did all of us who purchased items.

With programmes or tickets I imagine it would be impossible to reclaim items. However if it was a collection of shirts......

Although not in the same value/ historic range as Bobby’s shirt, the wife and daughter of the old Wales goalkeeper Tony Millington brought his caps and jerseys to The Antiques Roadshow on Sunday evening. What was interesting was that he didn’t swop many of his jerseys after the match. The one goalie he swap with was ltaly legend Dino Zoff. I think they brought 20 caps and a similar number of jerseys. I think in total they were valued at £18,000 plus..
