Hi all,

I'm new here and recently came in to some Headington/Oxford programmes from my late Grandad. They are from the 50s and 60s, mainly league but a few friendlies and Cup games and there are some away ones.

I'm really looking for some advice on what's the best way to sell them, how to find out what they are worth etc. Any advice is welcome, I have looked at sport auction website on advise but someone else suggested there might be people here interested as well.

I know people will want certain ones as I've had people ask me but I don't want to let them go until I know their value.

Thanks

Ashley

Welcome Ashley

There's a very good auction house near you (well, near Oxford anyway!) called Sportingold. They run auctions every 6 weeks (8 a year) and specialise in collections like this.

Headington Utd are very collectable, there's a good market for it. Some of them could well be worth up to 3 figures.

You may well get some offers from guys on here. Suggest you don't just take the first offer.

Good luck!

Hi guys,

Thanks for he reply, I have contacted Sporting Gold so will wait to see what they say and weigh up my options between them and eBay as it seems quite difficult to get ideas on individual programmes.

Hi,
As a collector of first and last seasons I have all the issues you have listed. The homes are maybe 3/5 each except Lincoln 20/30 and Cambridge friendly 20 maybe. The last game Crewe has 4 colourways, the red is the commonest. There is one which is rocking horse, Tranmere away Dec p/p, I have only ever seen 2, last one about 80 from memory. The Oxford cup Banbury is the only one I am still seeking from their 1st League season
Another of my interests is in early floodlight games and collect those from Headington being pioneers, so am interested in a few of yours, unfortunately a lot of your shots seem to have shade which makes the dates unreadable. If you list them and the dates I will let you know what they might be worth.
Auction could be the way to go.

Firstly some cracking looking programmes there that look in very good condition.

Secondly, apologies, but im going to show a bit ignorance here, are Headington United the ancestors of Oxford United as we know them now?

A dealer paid me more than that for a copy in the last few months.

Indeed they are. Have a look at the Historical Football Kits website. You'll find it interesting anyway but there's the history of each club there including Oxford/Headington.

Agreed that Sportingold is the way to get the best advice.

They will guide you on which ones to bundle and which ones to sell individually.

They have a good track record of achieving good prices for sellers and the programmes will not be sold if they do not reach the reserve prices.

Hopefully you are in for a good pay-day. Enjoy the ride.

Some cracking items there Ashley, and some good advice re: Sportingold.
Unfortunately, the Headington v Millwall issues I need are not in the photos, but very good luck with your sale (s).
