I’ve only just seen this topic.
The guy is very careful not to say that any of his items belonged to the person concerned.
I have reported him to EBay on a couple of occasions, but of course, as long as they’re getting their commission they’re not interested.
If you look at all of all of his items, my guess is he’s picking up whatever tat he can at car boot sales etc., the engraving them himself. |
I think there is a lot more science to it than that, you can pick up Police and Trench Whistles made by Acme PRE 1918, there after as no one has any real knowledge of these niche items-you then get them engraved with a font invented in the 1970's because most folk would not know a "Comic Sans from their Aerial narrow" and then pass them off as there is nothing to compare 1-1. It is not ebay that needs to be alerted its the Police but he has not harmed anyone bodily, spoken or sent out Anti-Semitic images, defased or brought into disrepute the Koran, attacked raped or been involved with Child Pornography and so UNLESS this has happened your local Bobby's in effect do not give a flying f... _________________ Leslie Millman

Well done Leslie on the investigation and outing fake items. Although the seller may no know it was a fake to be fair.
I think the term English Cup was dropped after the 1927 Cup Final when Cardiff City (my heroes!) won the trophy. And at the time there were six Welsh clubs in the League, Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, Wrexham, Merthyr Town and Aberdare Athletic. So probably that had something to sow with to,. although Queens Park played in the FAC pre 1900, I think it was Cardiff winning it that the prompted the name change.

Tony seller knew it was a fake as he has been selling other cup final whistles and also by the looks of it counterfeit coins! when i told him it was a fake never had a reply, ebay has had it reported by at least 2 and it is still for sale.
A few months ago, a fellow collector advised me they had purchased a 1948 FA Cup Final whistle inscribed with the refs name on, i was delighted for him and said if he ever got fed up give me a call. He sent me some images at that time.
So with all of this now going on i sent the pictures he sent to me to the guy at Acme Whistles who made the 1948 Whistle used by the Ref. Total Fake! this one cost £200 and came from someone in Wales who told the buyer "it was found on an Antique Market"-same bollocks re the 1909, also it appears has the same font used on the 1948 as was the 1909 and yet miraculously the font was not invented till the 1960/70's.
As i said before, if it glistens it ain't Gold and if it is too good to be true-then it bloody well is!. _________________ Leslie Millman

Thanks for clarifying Leslie. There are some sharp practitioners around.
I used to collect Subbuteo teams and that is rife with forgetting, adding a bit of paint here and there to make it look like a rare colour combination and selling them for £10 instead of £10. There are a few well know fakers in that area too.
I see you have a couple of items on Ebay for sale that interest me so I think I still have your email so will drop you a line to see if a deal can be struck,.

This guy and some others whom have been caught with the fakes have done the rounds of the Auction Houses and have been advised accordingly. |
How come if you have known who these dishonest Scum are, WHY have you not made it known to this Forum or anyone else for that matter?, who actually has been "advised accordingly" because to my knowledge you have not informed anyone up to this point.
There are a lot of dishonest underhanded liars, cheats and thieves in our Hobby[always was] as it is, but now with it not being as big a marketplace as it once was, then any information regarding fraudsters and tricksters should be brought out into then open, there may be more than one surprise who is a complete and utter Twat/s lurking under stones that no one would suspect?.

I speak with my Sportingold hat on. It is is impossible and unreasonable to expect us to be the policeman for every fraudster that knocks on the door at various Auction Houses up and down the country. As you rightly mention in your posting there are many. This particular vendor tried it on with us at the beginning of the year and then approached one of the other leading Sports Auction houses who by chance rang me and I told him of our experience and he promptly withdrew the item from his own catalogue. I have noticed that he (or one of his victims) has been many times trying to sell it on Ebay but how many thousands of items that go through the system are fakes or the like. I will make best efforts as and when to inform but cannot be held accountable for not disseminating information on every single fake on this forum. There are also suspected fakes to which one does not want to enter into litigation if one is wrong. I would be here all day and all night and would still not have finished. I have other things to do I am afraid. In summary best efforts is all that one can do. |

In the interests of complete transparency could you clarify in which capacity you are speaking whether it be employee, director or stakeholder ? |

You can speak if your wearing your wife's underwear if it helps, but KNOWING that there were con men operating with Niche items such as these damned whistles alone, then a word to the wise on here just to say "There appears an influx of Fake items such as Cup Final Whistles being offered as originals-but are out and out fakes-so please do not get caught out"
Yes it is not your job, but as a collector would you like to end up holding say a fake ticket or something similar-of course not!, so if you were aware of some scoundrels whose only intent was basic fraud and theft then it would be hoped that you would speak up for the good of our community.
Sportingold and I had an situation several years ago, a lot of tickets were put up for auction re early Cup Finals and Semi-Finals all at the Crystal Palace. I along with some others[unbeknown to me just at that time] had also purchased some from this reprobate[who was on this Forum as a bona fide member, who would rant on about Copiers, Forgers etc etc using in his warped pea brain reverse phycology-after all what reason would any of us have not to trust him?]
I contacted Chris and told him that I had fallen foul for a nice few quid, but it was my decision to go ahead so i took it on the chin, someone had invested £30k in these tickets and now wanted to cash in so they were in Chris's possession. I advised him mine were all fakes so these would be too as his vendor confirmed they were purchased in London. I gave Chris the name of the Paper Expert just so he could be satisfied in his own mind that this vendors stuff was worthless-of course it was and the Expert in Reading who is a Forensic chap who works with the Police[CSI eat ur hearts out] confirmed it all in minutes after scanning them.
Moral of the story is that Chris let it be known that these tickets were fakes and that should any others be offered to collectors beware or send him an image so he could see if they were pretty much identical and no more turned up-well it helped that with everyone's evidence the Police banged the piece of shit up and perhaps by now he is pushing up the daises as he had at that time a triple by pass, but if your still around and maybe on this forum eat dirt and die bitch _________________ Leslie Millman

And it went for £149, with 5 bidders. 5 people duped by the seller, unprotected by Ebay, and one of them about to find out he's been conned. Probably. |
