It was the first season that the politician/ Chairman of Luton (David Evans) instituted the away fan ban.
Competition rules dictated that away fans must get an allocation and he refused, hence they were chucked out.
Given the antipathy towards football fans at the time from the government, I suspect that his "principled" stance was well received by his colleagues in Westminster.
AKA he was a twat and it's a source of shame that Evans was once on Villa's books.

I fully concur, and he was ably supported by the Miniature for Sport, Colin Moynihan. The Miniature tag was bestowed upon him by the Beast of Bolsover, Dennis Skinner.

By the time he referred to us England fans in Italy in 1990 as "the effluent tendency of society" he had progressed from Miniature for Sport to Miniature for Shorts to Lord Haw Haw!!
I would still punch Moynihan in the face right now without a moment's thought.

God bless him.

A bloke called Robb Johnson has written a song about him "Tony Skinner's Lad" - here on You Tube

Worth a watch - and all proceeds from sales of the single go to miners' charities.
