Saturday 15th September 1945

Division III South (South region)

Crystal Palace 0 Bristol City 1 (Collins)

Gate: c 11,000

This "Supporters' Club Chronicle" is as close as it gets to a programme for Palace in 1945/6. They're pretty rare and worth having even in average condition with punched holes, writing and a dodgy staple.

Palace lost 0-1 but went on to be divisional champions in this league which ran only until the end of December. A League Cup followed from Jan-April 1946 and Palace lost at home to Brizzle then too! As you can see, this season allowed players from other clubs to guest as men were still serving overseas at that time, and such details have been kindly provided by the original owner.

Not sure what year this one is from. 4 page programme has a late 50s "feel" to it, though.

Spartan League Division One

Rickmansworth Town v Amersham

Could be either 1951 or 1962 based on Sept 15th being a Saturday and priced in old money

It is 1951 as the Amateur Cup preliminary round tie away at Tufnell Park Edmonton which is advertised on the front was played on 22 Sept 1951.

Some truly fabulous covers above - back to the small pocket type here.

Saturday 16th September 1961

Division III

Barnsley 0 Crystal Palace 3 (Uphill, Byrne, Allen)

Gate: 6,699

Palace started their first season back in Div III in good form but slumped in the new year to finish 15th. Any team with players of the calibre of Johnny Byrne and Ronnie Allen should be doing better than that. Byrne of course moved to West Ham in March 62. The Tykes started badly but steadied themselves and just avoided relegation in 20th, only 4 points behind Palace.

Another plea for the coal industry - one with a REAL future. Until about 25 years later anyway.
