I am sure that this has been noted before but I have today come across a Grimsby programme from 1972 where the away team has been denoted as Northamton instead of Northampton. It seems to be correct elsewhere in the programme.

There's a Fulham home from the late 50s which the cover states is against Nottingham Forrest and (not really a spelling error as such) plenty of old 60s and 70s issues for games against Workington Town which of course is the town's rugby league team, not the football club. Coming from North Wales, I have seen a fair few issues over the years involving horrendous spellings of our local teams' names including Banger City, Ryll and Carnafon Town! Hwyl, Mark Thumbs Up

An example of the classic and most frequent misspelling of Middlesbrough.

I'm sure I've got a representative programme v "so-and-so IX" not XI.

Must've been a backs-to-the-wall effort right from kickoff!

Beyond that several foreign confusions:

QPR v Galata Saray (14/09/1950)

Luton Town v Fener Bahce (7/10/1953)

Watford v Portuguesa des Desportes (22/2/1954)
- Desportos

Sunderland v Maccabi Petah Tiqva (2/10/1957)
- Tikva

Leyton Orient v Hapoel Petach Tikva (10/09/1961)
- Petah

Derby County v AS Biterroise
(Anglo-French Friendship Cup 11/04/1962)
- club is AS Beziers and the town's alternative spelling is Biterrois

Scotland U23 v Rumania U23
(European U23 Championship 16/12/1975)
- must have been a fairly archaic spelling by that time

programme was stopped quickly and probably less than 10 survive. Was reprinted wit correct spelling with a white cover instead of grey.

On the subject of Workington Town, I have a Keighley Cougars programme from around 6-7 years ago which describes them as Warrington Town.

Some good articles here on obvious spelling errors and misprinted programmes including Peterborough United v Hailfax Town

I have a team sheet from a Walsall v Bradfrod City match in the early 2000's , as soon as I pointed out the mistake to them they scrapped them and reprinted with the correct spelling , they wanted me to return the ones with the mistake on but I kept them so I have 2 teamsheets for the match,

The team sheet for Newport County's 2018/19 FA Cup win over Leicester City was withdrawn due to the unfortunate misspelling of Leicester City's Christian Fuchs
