Think this is sadly the way we have to go.
Will put a post up soon to advise that this forum will be closing soon and give the info on where the new forum can be found.

Agree, time to move to the"back-up" forum, I'm also having issues and have been for a while. Happy for you just to run with that PP unless you want to try a different platform from that one?

01/01/2020 seems a good date, start afresh. Happy to chuck a few quid in whichever direction.

I guess this place could still run parrallel for predictor purposes until end of season.

I'm an absolute novice when it comes to IT, but if you strip out some redundant data / files, would that increase performance? Can somebody advise?

There must be quite a lot of data on here that can be removed.

Whilst I begrudgingly accept that the change is upon us, and I will go with the flow, I’d still like to know if stripping out redundant data / files would increase performance? Somebody with IT knowledge must know.

It's down to the quailty of the hosting more than anything else.
I've seen and used far more popular sites using PHPBB and it's well within it's capabilities IF the hosting is half decent.

There will be a number of reasons the performance degrades over time:

Server that is hosting gets busier/full
PHPBB version isn't kept upto date
MYSQL tables aren't optomised and in need of repair
    Caching settings aren't correct

There really are quite a few reasons why the forum has/will slow down. Sadly most are out of our control as only the host can resolve.
