What a great fair. What a very good day out.Well worth the long drive. There were lots of people interested in shirts happy to talk about their past recollections .I had a good chat with many of them and got lots of photos of old shirt styles that i had long since forgotten about.I might even start putting together an album of photos of old shirts for flickr of old shirts that have caught my attention.
I am not sure what the programme dealers took but they looked a bit quiet in my opinion.Maybe shirts are the collecting of the future.

Did anyone see the Boot collector on MOTDx (new BBC2 programme) last week?
He had 400 pairs of match worn boots, they were so colourful too
Can't see it taking off to be honest as players spec boots are £100+ but it was amazing to see his collection! He was friends with lots of top players too as he has a youtube blog about boots and lots of players like watching him!

The video is online on the bbc if you can find it

Congratulations to the Retro Fair team on a very successful (and different!) Fairs. Lots of young people coming in off the Manchester City Centre street, attracted by the vast array of shirts on offer! Despite occasional quiet spells, I still did well with programmes.

What a great share.I assume i must thank Flinty, whoever he is.Yes a good day out.I got plenty of photos of shirts from the past.Very enjoyable.
On the topic of boots i think £100+ a pair is pessimistic.I think they are nearer £300 a pair and if a Ronaldo or a Messi you could be close to 4 figures a pair.
To be honest at even at £100 a pair i suspect they are out of the range of us poorer collectors but i would love to own just one pair of somebody special

On behalf of Retro Football Fair I'd like to say thanks to all who came and Gordon & Lee from Westward programmes & NWM Programmes for firstly trusting us due to it being the first and also travelling up to Manchester, you both added an extra dimension to the fair and we'd love to have you guys on board again.

The day itself couldn't have gone any better, we'd estimate over 1000 people through the door on the day, a great selling day for all involved however the general atmosphere was superb with a diverse mix of families, genders and ages all enjoying the fair.

Due to the success of the event we've been asked to put on more events of this nature across the country - we'll start planning them when our sleep patterns have returned back to normal!

if you're on social media please give us a follow to keep update.

Once again thanks to all who made it a success.

Tom - Team Retro Football Fair

Thanks for accommodating me Tom, highly enjoyable event. Great feel about the day, it seemed to get busier through the afternoon, and some wonderful old items on display and for sale.

Personally, I did a satisfactory amount on programmes etc, and then of course towards the end of the day the professional shirt dealers came in and raided my boxes of shirts and sportswear....which was the general idea ! I shall have to step up the scouring of charity shop over the winter months on a more regular basis to replenish stock !!!

Keep me posted on details for future events, if it's "do-able" for me to get to, would certainly be keen to attend.

All positive comments despite having minimal backing from this forum. It must have been Flinty who made it work.Well done to everybody involved.
1000 people attending!!I don't think you get that in a whole year of combined local programme fairs.

What may I ask constitutes "minimal backing from this forum" ?
AFAIK at least two dealers from this forum had stalls at the event.

The organiser asked 3 or 4 times for a listing in the upcomings without success and ended up with a bollocking from a mod for not sending him a pm
The organiser probably assumed, along with me ,that the mods monitor the forum
He offered tables to dealers for almost nothing but only two,the two who travel the country took him up and both reported positively. That said looking at the current traffic on the forum when the Predictor league gets about 40 to 50% of the traffic i suppose it is safe to say that is what the forum is currently about.I hope the above explanation is clear but either way that's the end of my say.

bluejames.
You seem to have a hidden agenda against the forum. Up to you I suppose but if you don't like us then why visit?
Please can you show me where any mod gave anyone a "bollocking"
As for if the mods monitor the forum. Well yes I and I am sure the others do but we can't see everything straight away.
se20blue did say for the op to pm me and if that had happened the event would have been added quickly.
You though seem to have conveniently ignored that as you just want to stir up trouble. Sad. Very sad.

Apologies if i appeared to offend. That was not the object.I admire anybody who puts in time and effort for free to promote the hobby and as such i applaud you. When working correctly, the forum has a wealth of knowledge to be drawn on, especially for the lesser collector, such as myself.Valuations are freely given and help in identifying mystery photos particularly interest me.Also i love the links to forum members flickr pages which often take up a long evening.I also like the informative way that forum members seem to pick up on the deaths of old forgotten players.I sometimes do think "i wondered what had happened to him"
So keep up the good work please. It is invaluable for my interest in collecting

But that is where your hypothesis falls flat on it's face as you are unaware of why other dealers did not attend. I was in regular contact with the organiser about having a stall as I could see it's potential. He encouraged me to go as he thought it would be beneficial to both parties. In the end it was the expense o travel costs, overnight accommodation, and not being able to park outside the venue that eventually put me off - things that as a club shop I most definitely have to take into account.

I did suggest that I thought Glasgow work equally as well as their reasons for Manchester was having the draw of two very well supported clubs there - something Glasgow can also boast. It would be great to see them north of the border.
