When did the Pools companies begin using Australian fixtures in the close season? I know that it is at least back to 1951, was it any earlier than that?

Anyone know or know of a more appropriate forum to ask the question?

Hi TT. There is a book called 'An Economic and Social History of Gambling in Britain and the U.S.A' by Roger Munting. On page 135, he states that 'Sherman's, before their demise, were the first to use Australian matches in the few summer weeks when British football was not played. They began soon after the end of the war, the other companies followed their example.
I found this in the 'Google' book review section.
Hope that this is of some help to you.
