I've just been blocked on Brentside's Ebay site for some reason. In the last year I've spent about £800 with them without any problems. A couple of weeks ago I returned a programme I bought from them because I didn't think it was worth what it cost and they refunded me. That was the only time that I've ever returned a programme to them. I wasn't nasty in any way, I just asked politely for a refund which I got. I didn't leave negative feedback. No reason to. Then i tried to buy another programme from them a few days ago and found out I was blocked! There were a few other programmes of theirs that I had my eye on and would probably have bought them too. So I'm very puzzled! Confused

Seems like their loss, not yours
Only ever brought a few programmes from them and never returned anything, he may have just had a bad day. Seems odd to block someone over 1 transaction, but each to their own

You certainly shouldn't be too worried about that! There are plenty of other respectful sellers out there that would be more than happy if you were spending £800 with them! Cross sellers like that off your lists and never buy from them again no matter what they might have that you would like.

What was the reason that you returned the item? Possibly an older item that was listed with one fault and when it arrived it had four or five?

I just returned a programme because I didn't think it was worth what I'd paid for it. I agree with you Turin. It's certainly their loss financially!

I can understand nats14, you go on eBay to win an auction, lets say for arguments sake £10, you win, enter a binding contract to pay for it, then say nahh not worth £10, you've not only wasted the sellers time but also that of the 2nd bidder who might have wanted the programme, I would have barred you as well as a time waster as i do with all non payers and report them,
If you think it's worth £10 based on the sellers description and photos, which i assume were accurate enough for you to bid, then you should honour your deal, if not stick in back on eBay and get your money back

I've had plenty of private messages agreeing with my original post. Who bans a customer that spends plenty of money with them? Confused

I wouldn't block somebody who was spending £800 with me.

However the question is legitimate how did you spend too much when you control your bid? The seller didn't need to give a refund.

I didn't think the programme was worth the money so I returned it. I'd spent another £200 in the same order and I kept the other three programmes because they were fine

This is potentially an interesting debate worthy of further discussion and counter arguments, if only one side of the argument was a bit more persuasive than just calling people they disagree with idiots!

Surely the bottom line is this, if the item description was accurate and complete, then you wouldn't have much recourse, if the description was
inaccurate, misleading or incomplete then you have good reason to return it.

I have previously returned an item as I didn’t consider the description was accurate and therefore the money I paid was too much for the condition that the programme was in. It was resolved quickly and satisfactorily and is a legitimate request for refund IMO. Thankfully it happens very rarely.

However, if you request a return/refund just because you subsequently decide that you’ve paid too much for the item, well that’s a different matter and is your problem at the end of the day. The seller isn’t obliged to give you a refund.

For clarity, which particular circumstance applies to this example?

Actually they are, due to Consumer Contracts Regulations

Appears to be a lot of exclusions, does it therefore cover auctions?

Can The Sorter! confirm if this was BIN or auction.I can only see that Brentside do BIN on Ebay but then I think there is more than one account on Ebay.
