A mate has emailed this wonderful photo to me, showing the Liverpool team lined up at Spurs on Easter Monday 15th April 1963. Spurs won this game 7-2 having lost the game 5-2 at Anfield on Good Friday 12th April.

Now, my questions concern the proud mascot, who would have been about 8 years old probably, so today would be about 64 and could well be a Liverpool diehard.

First question - does anyone know who this lad is?

Second question - does anyone have the Spurs v Liverpool programme 15.4.63 and is he referred to perhaps?

Third question - Liverpool's next home game was the following Thursday 18th April v Nottingham Forest. Does anyone have that programme and would that show the team photo perhaps and mention the lad?

I should just say, the photo isn't for sale. The owner just wants to find out and if possible contact the bloke.

Hi Pete

Just had a look at the 2 programmes you mentioned, but they have no reference to the young lad. You sometimes forget how sparse programmes were in those days...

Two more team photos also show the proud youngster....

After further research I am pretty sure the lad in question is Lesley McCann

Allan Jones was full back for this game and only made 5 full appearances for the Reds. He later went to Brentford where he made nearly 300 appearances. Wave

If you google - Leslie McCann Liverpool mascot then a twitter thread is the first result, this lady posted a reply to say she is Leslie's wife- her reply...

married to him!! Les often reminisces of his mascot days and has some great memorabilia...two red hot LFC sons and proud grandad of 4 potential LFC fans in the making!! He is of course still a staunch supporter

Is this as printed in the line up in the programme Pete? If so I will get a copy.

That I don't know, I don't have the programme. Our friend Jim does, you'd better ask him.

Did you get my email?

Sorry for the late reply, here is the team line up with no Allan Jones who was a late deputy for Gerry Byrne.

The only programme I can find with Allan's name in was a team change for the Forest home game.

However, this popped out of the Fulham home programme clearly putting Allan in a prominant position! Thumbs Up

That’s a real shame. I guess that he wasn’t included in the line up for the Cardiff game in 1959 either? I bought the programme for his debut for Brentford in August 1963 v Notts County and there is a few lines about his transfer and also he’s in the line up. Nice to see

That’s nice. Pete found me a few signed items from one of his contacts a few years ago.
