Very sad to read this, just 49 and after a long illness. Star quality about him and loved everywhere, "Chippa" made only 31 league appearances for Leeds having been signed in the same deal that took Lucas Radebe to Elland Road. But at Leeds Phil scored a hat-trick in the FA Cup and in his long career also scored the goal v Congo in 1997 that took South Africa to their first World Cup. Also played 75 times for Bari and 16 times for Salernitana in Italy, and scored 98 goals at almost a goal a game for Mamelodi Sundowns in his native South Africa. With 58 SA caps and 16 goals, Phil is a Bafana Bafana legend, but was no stranger to red cards and became the first SA footballer to be sent off in an international. Here he is in 1995 at Leeds
