I seem to recall that one of the stands at Deepdale had the legend "Preston - Home of the Butter Pie" painted wither on the roof or along a balcony. Does anyone have a copy of a photograph of the stand with the legend they could share. Or did I just dream this??

Just been through the 127 PNE press photos on my website and sadly there is no evidence of this legend on there.

What sort of era are you talking about please?

Thanks Pete for your efforts. As I said I am sure I heard about this a couple of years ago but I have no recollection of what era this might have been.

Butter pies must have been in the psychie of Paul McCartney.’ Mentioned in the song Uncle Albert/ ‘Admiral Halsey’ from the ‘Ram ‘ Album 1971. Lyrics::: ‘Admiral Halsey notified me. He had to have a berth or he couldn’t get to sea. I had another look and had a cup of tea and a butter pie.( the butter wouldn’t melt so l put it in the pie)’ Could be a Lancashire dish?
