Some say that those who follow football experience a mixture of hope and optimism punctuated constantly by disappointment and inspired by the occasional visit of success. Real enjoyment of the game comes in limited doses and the art is to wrap the memory around those moments of triumph so you may share with others what you assumed was improbable. PS. I was at the Etihad and was in direct line with the first Palace goal that had the accuracy of a an arrow as it crept inside the far post. Two minutes later, and looking across the pitch from my seat, I observed Benardo clearing the ball with his head and, as it dropped, Townsend met the ball on the volley and crashed it like it was a training session--the ball rocketed, at speed, in a level trajectory and bulged the back of the net just below the cross bar. I saw a newspaper report,later, that stated the crowd were stunned into silence----too true, we had just seen it and a feeling of disbelief was still with us. I agree with Pete, if that goal is not the best of the season then I await to see a better one----but not at the Etihad please, well, unless it is a City player but not Walker because it maybe an og.
