Is there a market in collectors looking for single sheet reserve issues? Is it only certain ones or certain teams that issued or does it depend on the match or perhaps a player or players that appeared or is it just the same as programmes and due to importance of game or size of print?

There's very definitely a market with the specialist club collector, albeit that market may not need both hands to count. I have over 3,000 Colchester reserve/youth/academy issues and a significant proportion of those are single sheets and I continue to monitor ebay for current aways.

The single sheet issue for West Ham reserves v Plymouth reserves 73/4 was on Sportingold a while back. Went for quite a bit due to it being Bobby Moore's final appearance for the club.

Certainly, as regards Derby aways, the 50s/60s issues at the likes of Bolton, Bury and Blackburn would go for a lot more than the equivalent at Wolves or Man City. Some at Old Trafford are quite common, others less so.

Presumably down to print run/lower attendances.

These days I don't really bother looking for reserve homes or aways post-1974. So many of them are too easy to photocopy.

Careful with the West Ham v Plymouth as there is a reprint ( noted as such on the reverse...)

As I recently discovered Sad

I think there is quite a demand for reserve issues, regardless of whether they are single sheets or not - from my experiences most are single sheets though.
I would assume the demand comes from the more serious collector who has completed (or near to completed) their first team collection and want another avenue to collect.

I have seen some 1970's reserves go for very decent money in the past, some early 80's are also creeping up as well.

It is not necessarily clear if anything was issued for some Leeds reserve home games in the late 60's and early 70's - there is still some doubt as to whether an issue was produced for every reserve home game from 1983/84 season.

A very collectable set in my opinion.

Collecting reserve issues is pleasing as it's undertaken the way I used to hunt for first team Derby programmes.
In other words, looking through catalogues and EBay can still uncover the unexpected and allow me to add to the collection for a reasonable outlay.

And they're easy to file away.

Some still price ridiculuously, though.
Seven or eight quid for a 60s Derby reserve home is way OTT.

There was recently on eBay Hertford Town v Leyton. No mention whether First or Reserves, but single sheet. It's defiantly Leyton Reserves but I am not sure of the Hertford team. As it was a friendly it could be Hertford Town's first team. So how would you classify that?

Over the years Reserve sides have played alongside the first elevens of junior sides in lower leagues.

For me if it's Leyton I don't care if it's the First Team, Reserves, A Team or Youth sides. I collect them all.
