That is sad news. Kevin Beattie was an outstanding attacking midfielder and would have been an England regular ( probably captain) in the modern day England team. Apparently Liverpool came close to signing him before he hit the heights at lpswich. He made his way to Merseyside for a trial with the Reds ,but could not find his way to Anfield and returned home.lf Shankly , Paisley or Fagan had managed to see him in action, they would have taken him there and then. A future Anfield great who got away!

Very sad news, only 64 and such a great player. Suffered some hard times too, caring for his wife who had MS, and being done for making a false claim for £9000. Right of course but his name's not Google or Starbucks.

2 years older than me, makes me feel very mortal.

RIP Kevin, thanks for the great memories.

Such a shame. A true possible "great" had in jury not curtailed his career. Loved watching him play as he had vision few others possessed.

Terrific player, but plagued with injuries throughout his career otherwise he would have been the perfect replacement long term when Bobby Moore's England days were over.
Still had an outstanding time with Ipswich.
RIP Kevin

Ipswich were my "English" team as a lad in the 70's and somewhere - I hope so anyway - I still have a signed photo to me of Kevin Beattie with the FA Cup after the triumph v Arsenal!
I was at Hampden that day watching my team not turn up against the original Rangers, but was consoled by Kevin and his mates beating the Gunners!
RIP

A great and classy player. Could definitely have been a new Bobby Moore.
Unfortunately his career was cut short too soon by injury.

As a very young Scotland fan I remember first hearing his name when he scored against us in 1975, after he came steaming up from the left back position to score with a header.

Things didn't go so well for him after he retired, but he was one of those players that fans of all teams agreed was a top notch player, a rare and deserved accolade to achieve.
