A football club's minutes book dating back to 1888 has been discovered providing a rare and fascinating insight into the lifestyle of Britain's first ever professional players.

The historical record was penned at the formation of England's Football League - over a century before it became the Premier League as we know it today.

The official Derby County FC document reveals a seismic shift in the way clubs, players and fans of the 'Beautiful Game' have changed over the last 130 years.

I know that the earliest possible minutes books survive for Everton and Crystal Palace.

Such is the fascinating information within them, there is sufficient material to write a book (and they have been!)

Knowing the level of interest in Derby County memorabilia, collectibles etc (sufficient to warrant a publication!) I think £500-£800 is a way too low estimate

I hope whoever buys it, access is given to it is given to a historian, so the story within can be shared

That does seem a very low estimate.

A shame the journalist calls the club Derby City, though.

Sold for £4,000, about double what I thought it would go for.

Rather glad the club were the winning bidder.

From the 10 minutes I spent perusing the item, there's a fascinating article to be written.
The chronology was confusing, though - the pages weren't in date order. Hand-written, yes, but not in date order. Most of the board meetings seemed to take place at directors' houses....or in th epub!
