Got a Scotland badge today which has an unusual pin on it (see attached photos). Has anyone seen this type before and if so do you know roughly when it would have been made. Doesn't look that old but haven't come across this sort of backing before.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, I have seen that backing before.

It wasn't a badge, it was attached to a leather keyring (the two prongs go through slits in the top layer of leather.

Very common on those Leather 'car makers logo' keyrings you used to get in Halfords

So do you think it was originally a key-ring ?

I hadn't seen it before, but it's still very nice and unusual as a stand alone badge in its own right. I'd certainly put it into my badge collection.

This medal badge of mine began its life as a key ring too ...

I agree it's a good addition to the collection, even though it's not strictly a badge.

I've seen lots of cool rubber fridge magnets turned into badges
