Can any member assist me in identifying the issuer / series of these cards.

Fronts and backs shown below.

Thanks in anticipation.

I think these are British American Tobacco, but published anonymously in 1924 as "Famous Footballers", second series of 50.

These include Harold Fleming (Swindon), L.Smelt (Burnley), J. Crosbie (Birmingham) and F.Moss (Aston Villa) who I think are 4 of the ones showing although it's hard to identify properly at this range. I can't make out who's furthest right.

Furthest right is T.Browell of Man City and he's in that set also.

Excellent Pete.

BAT, is that Gallahers? I have another set which is very similar looking also "Famous Footballers" but with the Gallaher name on.

No link at all between BAT & Gallahers.

But you are right, the Gallaher series of 1926 is very similar indeed to the 1924 BAT one. I have some of both, too.

I'm indebted to "Half-Time (Football and the Cigarette Card 1890-1940)" by David Thompson, which is invaluable.

I think I am going to answer my own question!!

I now think it is Godfrey Phillips, Famous Footballers series 1936 which I have tracked down as an anonymous series.

The cards you are showing are from 1924.

The Godfrey Phillips 1936 ones included the likes of Dixie Dean and his contemporaries and none of the players shown in your set.

OK thanks Pete for the clarification.

Much appreciated.

Anonymous issues! Obviously the issuers did not realise that 92 years later people would be asking the question "who issued these?"
