Just wondering whether anyone knows of any specialist valuers and insurance for programme collections or if anyone bothers with additional insurance on top of standard home and contents?

You can take out a separate policy to cover your collection, usually an all risks one. On most household policies there is a limit percentage wise on any item or collection, so if your contents are covered for £20K and your collection is worth £2K and the limit on the policy is 10% then you would be covered. The cost of valuation could be quite pricey especially of there are a lot of high value programmes. A continuous listing which you keep of prices paid and pictures too should suffice to prove your title. The thing about insurers is you do not know what they are like until you actually need to claim!

I have Home insurance with the NFU and cover my collection as an extra.
I need to keep a list of all items for them. I have a copy on pc, spare hard drive and hard copy. All noteable issues are scanned as well - belt and braces but condition can make a big impact on value and as the NFU only ask what I think they are worth, I feel this approach is safer.

There are specialist insurers who are household names and who will cover collections of anything either as part of a home contents policy or a separate issue.

I have just shifted to a new company who are a household name because my broker AON has come out of insurance.

The previous insurer wanted a list of any items valued over a certain value each and i produced this list but made certain that i went through a 3rd party who could verify the valuations and whom has a standing in the hobby and so back up any claims that i was making as they are experts in what the market is at every level from auctions, conditions, market trends ect ect.

Furhermore, my Flickr site acts as a catalogue of a visual nature and although there are still several 1000 items not uploaded as yet anything that is considered to be "important" is on my list. I woud recommend anyone to open a flickr or put together a website as documentary evidence that these items are yours, very simple and not expensive per annum for flickr.

However, new company has said no need for a list unless anything is over a quite high amount, but i still gave them my original list with my 3rd party expert valuation.

The information given out so far is also quite correct as well, but insurance is just that, most of the time you will pay and seem to get nothing in return UNTIL the S hits the Fan, then you will be delighted that you covered your rear end.
