Thanks Flaming Pie,

I tend to agree with you....as the socks are not all the same.

It does look like a decent football ground, so maybe they Were a club drawn against a larger club?

Alternatively it may be an end of season amateur final.

We may be drawing a blank with this one!

My first thought was Croydon Common but I've been right through their history book and it's not them.

All I can add is it's 1909 or later due to the keeper.

It's a bit random having a couple of schoolkids sitting on the floor at the front too!

I don't know who it is but they certainly appear to be looking for trouble.

A right rag-tag bunch of ne'er-do-wells if you ask me.

A borstal XI I expect, probably the same place Pie went to.

Wiggy, that's me at the back with the cap on behind that important looking bloke ( great moustache) at the front. It was taken before l joined the Capone gang in Chicago. Those were the days, as Mary Hopkin, wasn't she from Newport?,, once sang.

Looking at the caps on the fellas not in kit, is it the "Peaky Blinders Charity XI" from the 1925/26 season?

They did a few back in the day.......... Smile

Mary Hopkin was born on May 3rd in Ystradgynlais, near Swansea.

Martino, , Wiggy told me he used to take Mary for a few glasses of Wrexham lager when she was a lass! Apparently this was before she hit the big time on 'Opportunity Knocks'.

Laughing Laughing

Tell me about it Pie, after Hughie Green cornered her in the Thames TV broom cupboard, she was all like "Wiggy who?"

"Never heard of him."

"What's he done for me lately??!"

The ungrateful trout.

Typical that. A bit like when Frank Llewellyn from Brynmawr wrote that lovely song, "New-port New-port," about his favourite city.

Then he fell in with that Dean Martin lout, started hanging around with that JFK troublemaker, changed his name to Sinatra, and the rest is history my friend.

Got ideas way above his station did Frank.
Mind you, he was too scared to show his face in the Port again after that. The mafia couldn't save him there, good grief no, the Duffryn boys would have given him a proper thick ear for his cheek.

And a shiner too I wouldn't be surprised.

Wink

Hughie Green e'h,,,, didn't some bloke keep winning it ( Opportunity Knocks) when all he did was rip up phone books? Entertainment was certainly grand in the old days .Wiggy,, I detect the influence of that well known Spurs fan, Peter Cook , in your surreal tale about the young Sinatra, before he sailed to New York and found fame and fortune . . Peter Cook and half a gallon of Old Speckled Hen! Laughing

Very Happy Very Happy

I remember a bald fella on Opportunity Knocks hitting himself on the head with a beer tray whilst singing a terrible song Pie.

He completely ruined the tray, which was a nice Watney's Red example, and would have been worth thirty notes now. Very collectible.

I'm glad he didn't win, the vandal.

And what about this guy on Opportunity Knocks - The Muscle Man

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Holland_(bodybuilder)

If you want to see him in action there are some You Tube clips.

Totally gross.

Sorry Baltimore, you only wanted a postcard identified and , with encouragement from Wiggy,, have taken it on this weird tangent. I have decided to ban myself from the forum. Just to add, l am working on a plan to stop diving in football and will run it past the FA and FlFA before revealing all when my self imposed ban is lifted.
