It says on the auction catalogue

"PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ACCEPT DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS"

Must admit that not taking debit card payments is somewhat stunning in 2018, but there you go.

Not sure if you can pay buy credit card if you bid through The-Saleroom???

What is the situation on items that say 'sold with no reserve', but the opening bid is £20 for instance?

The auction in question sets their opening price very close to their estimate, so no need for a reserve. I find most of their estimates rather high which may explain whilst so many items go unsold or are being relisted again.

That's exactly how I feel. There is a lot of items I would be interested in, but feel the estimates and opening bid figure are too high.

No one PAYS the saleroom-they are only a link to the Auction House. If you buy via the saleroom you are paying the Auction House directly and the saleroom costs are around 3.5% or so and that figure is added to your bill by the Auction House.

The saleroom represents every Auction House that uses it's services, they charge the Auction House and the Auction House charges you.

IF YOU WANT ANONIMITY THEN YOU PAY WHAT THE EXTRA COSTS THE AUCTION HOUSE ADDS TO YOUR BILL.

It is as simple as that and I would say in time to come most of the bids will be done in this way perhaps.

Hanging around for hours waiting for odd lots 100's of lots apart are now a thing of the past, you can get a condition report from the Auction House and then register to bid via the Saleroom.

Sometimes it suits me to use the saleroom and other times I will use one of the other options.

Even onsite PayPal via gift would be better than cash or bank transfer...it does put a certain amount of buyers off. There are some instances when I want to chuck a wedge on my credit card but this stops me from buying at this auction

I'm going to say nowt, bid, and hope I get lucky Smile

ps - it's not a Derby item...

Is it only me that finds it strange a well known auction house is only too happy to use this forum to advertise a forth coming auction but not it seems to explain why they are refusing to accept debit or credit card payments? Particularly as members have asked (politely I might add) for an explanation. Confused
