Hi All,

Can anyone help in identifying the players in these photos please?

Thank you very much in advance Smile

1) Sunderland immediately after winning the 1937 FA Cup at Wembley (I think).

2) Yugoslavia vs England (in Belgrade?) in 1939.

3) A Barcelona player from the 1970s?

4) England v Rest of Europe at Highbury in 1938.

5) Tottenham winning the Costa Del Sol Tournament in Spain in 1965?

6) Team unknown!

7) England away, date unknown

1. Sunderland 1937, Raich Carter being carried.

3. Definitely Jimmy Greenhoff, Man Utd 1977-78 away kit.

7. could be England in Berlin 14th May 1938, the infamous "salute" game.
I've had photos from that game before, think it's Eddie Hapgood nearest the camera. Tom Whittaker is down the far end in his suit, Cliff Bastin is 5th left with the parting. Although 5th right could be Wilf Copping and he didn't play in the Berlin game, but he played in both games mentioned by Pie above.

7. Yes, you are right. Copping was the one that gave it away, and there's no way it would be Belgium in that stadium.

Wilf Copping, the original hard man of football.Didn't he take on the ltalians single - handed in the 1930s 'Battle Of Highbury' encounter. He looks a right hardcase!

The Sunderland players are Charlie Thomson (far left), Len Duns to Carter's left, Raich Carter with the trophy, Sandy McNab to Carter's right, Eddie Burbanks obscured behind McNab and Bert Johnston far right

Pretty certain Five and ln can name all of these Spurs players.Far right photo last man is Alan Gilzean , standing next to him is Dave Mackay. Jimmy Robertson and Phil Beal look to be there. Jimmy Greaves could be there somewhere.Could be a few fringe players in the line-up, such as Keith Weller . A team photo from 1965 will probably reveal all. There's Jimmy ( with a great sun tan) back row 4th from the right.Pat Jennings with short hair is the tall goalie at the back.

Tottenham won the Costa Del Sol Tournament in 1965 & also 1966. I'm not sure which year the photo is from, but the team line ups for both years can be found within this link:

Thanks for the vote of confidence FP Laughing

I'm really struggling with this as the clarity of the photo disappears when I enlarge it to the extent that I would struggle to recognise myself!

My best guess is:
Back row left to right - Dave Mackay, Cliff Jones, 3, 4, Bill Brown, Alan Mullery, 7, Cyril Knowles, Maurice Norman, Alan Gilzean.
Two at the front are Phil Beal and maybe Derek Possee.

The three I can't see clearly 3, 4 & 7 will be from Laurie Brown, Frank Saul, Jimmy Robertson, Eddie Clayton and Greavsie which means two of the team are not in the photo at all.

Hope this helps TheMusic.....any chance of posting the team one on it's own so it's a little clearer?

Thanks TheMusic

Using numbers from my previous post.

No 2 is not Cliff Jones and I can't get him.

4 is Eddie Clayton, I think and obviously 7 is Greavsie.

Front right is not Possee, I think it's Jimmy Robertson.

Also, the more I look at the keeper, I think it's Pat and not Bill Brown, but Brown played in the games, so I'm confused.

Just leaves 2 & 3 with no idea.

Got my Mackay wrong, as Five said ,,he is first on the left.Ron Henry third from left Alan Mullery next to Greavsie. The goalie looks like Jennings.Great to see Jimmy Greaves looking so happy. What a goalscorer! Some great sun tans going on there!

This is the Spurs line-up for the 1965 cup.

Bill Brown, Norman, Knowles, Mullery, L. Brown, Mackay (c), Possee, Clayton (Saul), Gilzean, Greaves, Robertson (Beal)

And this is the 66 line-up.

Jennings, Kinnear, Henry, Mackay, Knowles, Mullery, Venables, Beal, Robertson (Weller), Greaves, Gilzean

Disagree re Bill Brown, and I can't see Venables so should be 1965 version.
