Following on from my recent posting of the Olympian FC Items, I thought I would share a couple of prized items from my team-West Bromwich Albion.

2 No. good condition Postcards sent to player Mr A Bostock dated 19th June 1893, & 22nd January 1894.

Both signed by Club Secretary ( Manager) Mr H.S.Jackson

I just loved the formality of the communication.

You will not be surprised to know that the Alfred St, Handsworth address is a very humble home in the immediate vicinity of the ground.

Hope you find this interesting. Can anyone tell me more about Mr Bostock?

Another Archie Bostock postcard is featured on this excellent linked website...you'll need to scroll down to find it though.

They are superb, Balti. Nowadays the Albion players wouldn't even know where Handsworth is.

Hi

Here is a WBA Selection card for the forthcoming match v Newton Heath in 1892 sent to Bostock along with a letter that Bostock wrote about the behaviour of the Newton Heath players during the game.

Bostock commented on some of the NH players "playing very rough and jumping about like wild Indians!". He also wrote to local newspapers complaining about the treatment he was getting!.

The images you are seeing were from the Phillips catalogue in 2000 when I had to sell my collection and this Archie Bostock selection card and the letter were nice items, someone bought them for £320 + the 15% commissions at that time but I do not know who, although I have my suspicion they have never surfaced since nor are they likely too I suspect.

Well you never know what is around the corner in the world of collecting, you win some, you lose some and then you win some more! Wave

Hello Leslie,

That’s fascinating....little did I anticipate , when you encouraged me to post any Victorian items.

Small world!

Well who would have thought it......two more selection cards have turned for Archie Bastock.

These being for...

Birmingham St George’s v West Bromwich Albion 31.1.1891 FAC
Birmingham St George’s v Stafford Rangers 16.2.1892

What are the chances....?
