Sad news today that one of the iconic black footballers of WBA's Three Degrees has died at the age of 59. A superb athlete, footballer, and nice man to boot.

Really sad news.
I worked in West Bromwich for about five years and know what he meant to the Baggies fans.
Cyrille was a terrific striker who gave 100% every game.
Hard as nails, but fair with it.
RIP Big Man

Very sad news, I saw Cyrille play several times, including heading a winner at Anfield for Coventry.

One of the true pioneers for black players in this country.

RIP big fella.

I was shocked by this not only because we were roughly the same age.

What a player he was!

RIP and thanks for the bravery when racism was just considered part of society.....

Devastated by this sad news, aged 59 - it's so unfair. Big Cyrille was a true pioneer and nobody ever had anything bad to say about him. A great professional and a trailblazer for black footballers. And what a player.. that televised game with WBA against Man Utd will live forever.

59 for God's sake. I can't believe it.

RIP Big Man.

I hope this isn't inappropriate, but I instantly thought about this when I heard the sad news earlier.

When he scored that winner at Anfield, some scally on the Kop shouted ... "F**k off Regis you handsome c**t" ... which brought about much laughter.

From that day on, my buddy & me always referred to him as "Handsome Cyrille."

He was one of those hard-but-fair players that even opposition fans liked and respected.

Couldn't agree more with all the tributes to Cyrille Regis on the forum. Saw the big man score a cracker against Everton mid 1980's at Goodison ,when he was playing for Coventry. His physical strength to the fore, he was unstoppable as he bustled his way through the Blues' defence and blasted the ball past the Everton keeper. .The racist stick that Regis, Cunningham and Batson must have been subjected to in the early days when they became West Brom regulars was unbelievable, including being spat at when they got off the team coach. He came through it all a great player and a very dignified man.

My first footballing hero, met the man a few times and it was always a pleasure. Absolutely gutted this morning when I found out.

The word legend is banded about way too often for average players for no reason, Cyrille was and always will be a West Brom and a football legend.

RIP big man xx

Very moving seeing Dion Dublin talking about Cyrille tonight on Match of the Dog, and getting really choked up (nice supportive pat from Shearer too in fairness). You can see what the big fella meant to players. Same with Brian Deane.

A lad on the County forum hit the nail squarely on yesterday I thought, when he asked why Cyrille had never been knighted. Some things are more important than medals he said, and I must admit, I was nodding in full agreement.

I've been away. I didn't know he'd passed away till some 10 minutes ago.
59 - so young.

I'm more than stunned.
