While Gordon Bennett will be looking after the dealers needs for this fair and the frills that surround the event, I will be trying my best to promote this Prestigious Fair throughout the country.More information will be added as we go along but I can ensure Gordon and myself will leave no stone unturned.
Can I ask if anybody on here can the promote the Sheffield Fair
You might be a member of other forums, you might have your own website,
or just through general social media
I thank you in advance

Hi Nick/Gordon, many thanks for your efforts regarding the fair.
Many United collectors I spoke to regarding last year weren't aware it was even on. Some only became aware on the morning of the event, many not until afterwards.
However, hoping to change all that.
I've posted details on United's major forum, S2 4su and will be having regular updates on the run-up to the fair. Could you let me know who will be attending as you find out.
Although I'm not a collector as such, is there a possibility of a badge stall being present, I can't remember recalling one in previous years. I suspect they might down very well. I'm forever being asked where I can get badges, but its not an area I'm particular familiar with.
I will email Kevin Cookson, United's programme editor sometime in the next few weeks to see if he can get something in the match day programme in December.
Wishing you every success.

Thanks Sharrow for your support
First of all badges, yes there will be many badges on sale
Its an area I am into now, I will be bringing my 3,000 badges a mix of english, scottish, welsh non league plus football league clubs.
So if your interest is in badges it will be the place to be.
Gordon and myself have opened this Fair up now to the bigger room ( ballroom)
First signs of interest among dealers is very good
We will update soon confirmed dealer attendees
We want the word out everywhere , so the publicity machine is working overtime
As you know certain dealers have a following and we are tapping into various memrobillia sellers thus giving a massive range of what football memrobillia is all about
Keep u posted
Thanks for your support

Reminder: Sheffield Fair is next month: on THURSDAY DECEMBER 28 at ROYAL VICTORIA HOTEL, VICTORIA STATION ROAD, S1 2AU.
We have taken the large Ballroom for the event, so there's still plenty of room for any extra traders and/or collectors with surplus stock to sell to book tables.
Email: [email protected] for full details. |

Just to follow on from Gordon on the Marketing side of things for this Fair I have made contact with both Sheffield United & Sheffield Wednesday
They both have stated they are willing to advertise the Sheffield Fair in one of their up and coming home game programmes in December, a big thank you to them
We are expecting a very good turn out of collectors
So as Gordon as stated book your stalls and sell, u might fill your boots!
Remember we are in the Big Ballroom this year
Make it a day to remember for both the collector and dealer
Thanks Nick |

After an enjoyable Fair at Leeds last Sunday I'm currently engrossed in preparing to return to Yorkshire for the SHEFFIELD PROGRAMME & MEMORABILIA FAIR at the Ballroom, Royal Victoria Hotel, Victoria Station Road on the THURSDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS (December 2 from 11am to 2pm.
I've stood at this fair in each of the previous three years, and following the shock passing of the previous organiser, Mick Brodie, I've teamed up this year with Nick Westall (Accrington Nick) firstly to ensure that it continued, but also to try to build it up into what may eventually become a much bigger, better event.
In that context, we've taken over the hotel's more spacious Ballroom as the venue - and we're most encouraged that we have consequently been able to accommodate twelve traders this year, compared to the six traders that there was only space for in the room previously used.
Last year there was some comment amongst Sheffield United collectors that they were not very well catered for. That, I thought, was largely due to the absence of Michael Hewitt. I am delighted that Mick is returning this year and I'm sure he will bring plenty of stock aimed at satisfying that demand, as well as plenty of Sheffield Wednesday items to at least partly offset the loss of Mick Brodie.
Whilst there will be a wide range of Sheffield United and Wednesday stock on sale, collectors of the region's other clubs' programmes and memorabilia - such as Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Hull, York, Leeds, Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield, Chesterfield and Scunthorpe - will find that many of the traders will be catering for them too. Indeed, most traders will be carrying plenty of stock of many clubs from much farther afield.
In addition to Nick Westwell and myself, the three other traders who were present last year - auction house Sportingold run by Chris Williams, who always brings some excellent items for sale, and two well-known vintage memorabilia specialists, Tom Roe and Tony Kavanagh - are all coming again.
The six newcomers are: Lee Hermitage, who is coming up from London, and who for nearly 30 years ran the club shop at Hayes FC and now trades on his own account as North West Middlesex Football, specialising in programmes, vintage magazines and is a popular figure at Southern fairs; Rob Frowen from Blackpool, who is well-known as a regular at various fairs in the North-west and who will be making his first venture into Yorkshire; Matt Thompson, who trades as the Autographed Shed and specialises in signed memorabilia; Ian Nannestad from Lincoln, who publishes the Soccer History magazine; Stuart Eyre, a local collector who has a substantial quantity of surplus programmes that he is hoping to find good homes for; and Phil Pearson, a regular at the Leeds fairs who will be breaking new ground coming to Sheffield.
In the next day or so I will be providing more details of each stall-holder, including their contact details, so collectors wishing them to bring specific items to the fair can make their wants known. |

I'm really looking forward to the Sheffield Fair on Thursday.
Remarkably, and I don't know the reason why, but of the 31 fairs I stood at in 2016, my takings there was the third highest of the year, only behind the two major New Year and June fairs at the Royal National Hotel in London.
Being based in Plymouth, my stock obviously has a slight West County bias.
In the last twelve months I've tried to bolster my stock of the two Sheffield clubs, and it now includes two United Reserves programmes from the 1930's.
I have also recently acquired modest collections of Hull City and Leeds United programmes.
If Forum members come to the fair on Thursday, please introduce yourself. |

The moving of the fair to the ballroom was a huge improvement and it was very well laid out.
Hopefully, Nick and Gordon can build on this for the future _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets

May I add my personal gratitude to all the traders and collectors who attended the Sheffield Fair on Thursday and who made it such an enjoyable event.
Hopefully, quite a few gaps in collections were filled.
In particular, tribute must be paid to my colleague, Nick Westwell:
firstly, for discovering that Mick Brodie had passed away and someone needed to fill the breach to keep the event going;
then for suggesting that he and I should combine to do so;
and finally in sharing my enthusiasm to move the event into the much more spacious (but more expensive to hire) Ballroom.
As Nick has mentioned, we are both most grateful also for Sharrowblade for helping to promote the Fair via social media etc. It was all very, very helpful.
Nick and I have various ideas to try to make next December's Sheffield Fair even bigger and better next year.
Meanwhile, back in my native West Country I am now organising three up-coming Fairs:
Sunday January 28 at Legends Lounge,, Swindon Town FC (10.30am - 1.30pm),
Sunday March 18 at Bristol Room, Bristol Rovers FC (10.30am -1.30pm), and
Sunday July 8 at Randalls Lounge, Bath City FC (10.30am - 1.30pm).
Collectors living near to these venues will find they are well catered for at each of these Fairs. If you're in the area, pop along - we shall be pleased to see you! |
