Did anyone buy any of the numerous 'bargain bundles' that used to be advertised in 'Goal and 'Football Monthly'? Were they worth the 3 shillings or whatever they cost? Very Happy

Around 1962 I advertised for a few editions in the Soccer Star publication and had a trickle of a response. But I remember ringing St Andrews up as I lived a bus ride from the ground in Birmingham and asking if they sold programmes from previous matches. I took a large suitcase up to the ground after work and was taken into a stock room down narrow passages. When the door was opened there were full packets and part opened packs, programmes on the floor. Take as many as you want and how much, I think about 7/6d. Staggering back to the bus stop I managed to get them back to my digs. After a short time attempting to make a little extra cash I eventually took all my spare programmes to the Programme shop in Crystal Palace and at least I had a day in London, that I remember very well. 50 years later I returned to dealing in football memorabilia and I enjoy it.

From memory, I recall the bundle from David Stacey Programmes being of a much more "random" nature than the equivalent from Steve Earl.

But, again from memory, didn't Mr.Earl only advertise in "Shoot"?

I can recall getting my very first 1950s programme via one of Mr.Stacey's bundles. Crystal Palace, I think.

"Look, Dad, this programme is older than me!"

Happy days.
