I've added a few new badge albums to my Flickr site - not football or Newport County this time, but good old British nostalgia, including the 1960s pub.

I thought it might possibly be of interest to a few of the chaps on here, given that the majority of us are the wrong side of fifty and will have first-hand memories of the brands etc.

Smile

The pub is the album titled "The Ale House."
I've also started an "Other Gollies" album as well (not including the Gollies I have in my Newport Co collection), both are works in progress that I'm hoping to keep adding to over time.

Cheers.

Cheers buddy, after football I'd guess pubs and ale are my other life-long hobbies, more's the pity!

Sadly it'll be a good week or so before I can add to them, as I got booted off eBay for a week on Thursday, for conducting personal deals.

Even though I complained about it, I knew full well I'd had it coming. lol
It's not as I hadn't had warnings.

Haha, buggers aren't they.
If they think they're missing out on their pound of flesh they're not happy at all.

I doubt it'll make me mend my ways, I'll just have to learn to be a bit cuter.

I do feel like my right arm has been severed without it though, I'm so used to trawling away on there of an evening whilst the telly is on in the background.

I've been too scared to look on there since Thurs in case I see something I really want.
What I don't know can't hurt me mate!

Smile

Cheers Jim, my being a closet Red was the inspiration behind my "Ale House" title.

I've stood on the old Kop many a time and heard the opposition referred to as an alehouse side mate!!!

Very Happy

I see the photo of your Butlins badge within one of the albums.

I have never eaten a prune since our 1970 visit coincided with some sort of supply chain problem and we were given prunes for breakfast for each of the 14 days.
After being told "it was that or nothing" and, despite pleading with increasing desperation for the "nothing" option as each day went by, my father said we'd paid for the breakfast up front so eat it we shall.
To this day, I cannot look at a prune without thinking Butlins.

Still, that's what these photos are for - to bring back memories both good and bad!

Lol, yes, not all memories are of the pleasant variety I guess mate.

Your story reminds me of when I was sent blackberry picking for my Nan one summer when I was about eight, so she could make jam - and I scoffed more than I put in the bucket, and was violently sick all night in my now purple bed.

Never eaten a blackberry since.

Shake

Just had a look through your 'Ale House' and 'Cards & Postcards Pre-War' pages Liam - fantastic mate!

I was intrigued by your BDV Silks postcard size - was this another of those collect a number of smaller cards and send in for a 'cabinet' size by any chance? I've never seen one before so it could be another Lions one to add to my list!

The postcards at Brighton are interesting. I have a few of Millwall down there. The local photographer seemed to be present at all matches to capture the fans on film.

I've no idea if the postcard-sized silk was a 'collect & send' like you say Ian, never really thought about it, but I'm guessing it probably was as it's far to big for a pack of 1920s Woodbines.

They definitely exist though, and they are rather large and maybe even a bit bigger than your standard postcard mate.
Although quite why the Newport player is pulling a Hitler salute will forever remain a mystery. I don't think we were Nazis mate.

The unusual kit colour is because it was a strip that was donated to us by West Brom bizarrely, which we only wore for one season.

I have a few of the Godfrey Phillips 'cabinet cards' that were sent away for (not by me mind, lol), which as you'll know are standard "trade card" (FKS / Topps etc) size - but sadly have never seen let alone had the chance to buy the holy grail, a Godfrey Phillips team group card.

Indeed I've only ever seen these for a small handful of teams, maybe six or seven at most. I can only assume not many were ever sent for given the amount of Pinnace cards needed for the exchange.

Cheers for the kind comments mate.
