I want to talk about the issue of rugby programs in the USSR and Russia.

The first football program were issued at the begining of the last century under Tsar Nicholas II and rugby programs under Stalin in the late 30s.

At the end of 30 years of sports events held with exhibition matches rugby.

Exhibiton rugby matches held during sporting events and mention of them were in the program.

1938 "Spartak" Moscow - "Burevestnik" Moscow

1939 "Burevestnik" Moscow - "Dinamo" Moscow

In general the program issued before World War II are rare and expensive.

Before the Second World War in the USSR in 38 and 39 held two Championships of the country, in the year 40 the championship could not be finished.
In 1938 and 1939 the Champions of the USSR became "Dynamo" Moscow
Further in the USSR was not up to rugby.
After the war in 1947 in Tbilisi and in 1949 in Kiev rugby tournaments were held.
The program of the tournament in Kiev i have in my collection. 5 teams participated.

After 1949 no rugby competitions were held in the USSR, the development of rugby took place after the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow in 1957.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6th_World_Festival_of_Youth_and_Students

During the Festival a tournament was held with the participation of teams from Romania, Czechoslovakia, France and the Welsh "Llanelli".

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/n.....ay-9909678

Programs of the tournament were released, but I saw them only in the State Archives of the Russian Federation.

I want to say that the archive is a very bad copier ...

Five programs and a brochure with the results of the tournament were printed.

After the Festival in Moscow in the USSR interest in rugby rises and the first rugby tournaments begin to take place.
Moscow, Tbilisi, Riga, Ivanovo, Leningrad ...
At least one program of the tournament was released in Riga in 1963.

And in 1966 the USSR Rugby Championship starts.

So the first USSR Rugby Championship was held in 1966. Participated 14 teams.Champion of the USSR in 1966 was the team of Moscow State Technical University N.E. Bauman.

In 1967 the championship was not held but the Rugby Federation of the USSR was established.

And since 1968 the USSR Championship has been held regularly.

In 1974, the first match was held by the USSR national rugby team.

In Moscow, a tournament for the prize of the newspaper "Socialist Industry" was organized.

The teams Grivica Roshi, Romania, Poland's SCRA, Nada Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia Prague team, the second USSR team and the Moscow team participated.

The USSR team took the first place.

And this is the program of the tournament.

A year later in May 1975 the USSR Rugby Federation was admitted to the International Amateur Rugby Federation.

In 1976 the Moscow team "Slava" took second place in the USSR Championship flew to Wales for three friendly matches.

November 10 "Rhimney" - "Slava" 10-8 (10-0).

November 15 "Blaina" - "Slava" 0-14
November 17 "Kidwelly" - "Slava" 33-7

I have a match program in Rhimney.

The following year the team "Rhimney" came to Moscow for a match with "Slava" and lost 6 - 61.

The video of this match is preserved.

In addition rugby players from Wales had two matches in Georgia against the team of "DSC" Kutaisi and lost twice - 19-28 and 3-15.
