You may recall late last year that I mentioned a new Middlesbrough Programme Book was being produced? Collectively with like-minded Middlesbrough followers, we have finally finished and published ‘The Ultimate Guide to Middlesbrough Football Programmes Since 1899’. It is a Limited Edition (250), high quality hard-case large (A4 sized) bound book containing over 300 pages. Circa 8,000 matches are listed and the book is designed to appeal to programme collectors, supporters and statisticians of clubs across the length and breadth of the country, given the multiple matches against other teams at various levels over the 117 years covered.

Research spans back to 1899/1900, Middlesbrough Football Club’s first season in The Football League. There are over 200 programme images featuring big matches and obscure programmes with dedicated commentary on each.

All levels are covered from 1st XI to youth, with sections allocated to Reserves, F.A.Youth Cup, North Riding Senior Cup and over 800 Friendlies / Testimonials. Match scores are listed from 99% of all these games. The book also provides the first complete record ever published of Middlesbrough’s, Reserve, North Riding Senior Cup and F.A.Youth Cup matches back to their inaugural seasons.

Due to exceptional local demand, the initial stock sold out very quickly. With interest high, the next batch of books have promptly been printed and are now available. Profits from sales are going to two worthy causes – The MFC Foundation and the Middlesbrough Former Players Association.

Further details or enquires regarding the book can be made to one of my co-authors via the link,

Thanks for looking Thumbs Up

My copy arrived today, very impressive. Better production than I was expecting to be honest (it isn't a cheap print and flimsy A4 pad, it's a decent book in it's own right)

Although my Boro 'collection' is limited to Grantham v Middlesbrough 73/74 and a complete League Cup run from 2004, I don't think I'll bother marking them off Smile

(Although I do have several hundred more in my lock-up and programmehut)

Many thanks Grantham for your kind appraisal. It’s good to know that our research and consequential publication is appreciated.

Many thanks to the forum members who have already purchased our book and for your feedback. There are a few copies left if anybody else is considering.

It is a cracking book, Ive been collecting only recent programmes for the last 25 years but soon found 4 programmes in the book that I didnt even know existed. Really great work credit to the club and programme community. Bow

Out of interest, how do you guys feel about the season that Boro produced 2 different covers? Do you treat them as different as I know that I have both Villa ones.

Well, as they were different, I would assume that the nature of the collector means that they would want both copies. Technically it was £3 for a different picture on the front cover and a very small amount of differing text on page 3 which indicated that there was another programme available with a different cover. The only other bonus was that if you bought both copies you had two chances to win 'a great Boro prize' through the lucky programme number competition! Obviously, it didn’t bring in the revenue and the idea was shelved for the following season.

How did I feel about two different covers..."Ripped off"…but that was my choice. Sad

Edit: Here's an example of the rarest issue of the "double covers" v Tottenham, currently at £34 on eBay with a couple of hours left. I would presume that it will sell for a higher total. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1524.....EBIDX%3AIT
