Sorting through some non football bits to list on Ebay today, I found a newspaper from 1901 which reported mainly around the death of Queen Victoria a few days before.
There was a small football section which caught my eye with a match report on a local cup game between Windsor & Eton and Eton Wick with great script like "the rain cleared off" and the goalkeeper saving in "capital style"
There is also mention of Amateur Cup matches where Ipswich Town lost 6-2 to Old Etonians and Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 victory against Richmond.

I love reading the old newspapers both for the sport and general stories.

I have probably said this before but my favourite snippet was about a guy in Court who was fined for "standing on a street corner without being able to give good reason"

Bedminster St. Francis beat Eastbourne, at Eastbourne (by arrangement) 2-1

Of course, we must assume that the arrangement in question involved switching the tie from Bedminster's ground to Eastbourne's.

Not suggesting for one minute that the result was fixed in any way. Very Happy

I've got a 1946 magazine that has an article that says the Celtic board wanted the next match at Ibrox postponed or scrapped in relation to a disputed handball that led to Rangers winning goal. I had to look at the date the top because it could easily have been 1948-1955-1963-1975-1989-1995-2003 etc. Wave

Hi,
Many years ago I remember reading, in a Rangers' programme, a match report of a previous game between Rangers and their opponents on this particular day. rangers had been awarded a penalty ( some things never change ) which, according to the Programme Editor, Ralph Brand had taken and - wait for it - scored with ' airy aplomb '
Jings, crivens, help ma boab, just what were thae English teachers doing in Govan in the 1960s ? What was wrong with Ralphie not just ' blootering it into the back of the pockey' ?

Apparently the Football Echo( Liverpool) was notorious for misprints in the 1950's. One match report , l think it was Everton v Bolton, read. "Everton centre-forward, Dave Hickson, ran through the Bolton defence and let fly with a tremendous shit , that bounced off the post and hit the goalkeeper full in the face".
