I would say picking up 3 x Wales 1958 final round programmes for £30 in Bonhams about 4 years ago.

About 20 years ago at auction, I was lucky enough to pick up a Match card from the 1903 F A Cup final played between Bury and Derby Co for £120, it is currently on display at the NFM in Manchester.

Bloody hell. If you had said £120 40 years it would of been cheap!

Picked up this scrapbook of ebay a couple of years ago, covering every fixture of the Wolves 67/68 season match reports and pictures , played three times less than vendor was originally looking for.

Not football but a bargain none the less.
swapped two items I'd paid £38 for for this 1930 challenge cup final.

All of my "best bargains" probably came in the early years of eBay, circa 2001/02/03-ish.

Back then, including a picture of the item was optional, so it wasn't untypical for as many as 40 or even 50% of the auctions to be 'blind,' where you were taking an absolute punt on something that had no pic, and very little by way of a description.

Found some real rarities for peanuts by having a regular such punt.

The only bargains as such these days are those that are poorly listed, in the wrong sections with the vital key words missing.

I picked up a Newport County badge worth three figures for four quid a year or so ago in such an instance.
Couldn't believe my luck.

Must admit I felt really guilty about it when it arrived too!!
Like I'd purposely mugged the poor bugger.

Smile

I soon got over it though.

not at all-he paid for your knowledge that you built up over many years!

But even some of the so called "Big shot collectors" get their shirts lifted as they do not always possess the knowledge that they thought they had and try to impress on to others-but some collectors know just a bit more and I will leave it at that Sherlock Laughing

Yes you're quite right Leslie.
For every bargain I've had, there's been the mistakes too where I wildly overpaid on an item for example, whilst still building up that knowledge.
Not knowing any better at the time etc.

Indeed, I tend to remember those times more than the bargains!

So I suppose it's classic swings & roundabouts mate.
