Just seen this. Duncan Forbes, one of my first football heroes. Funnily enough the mental picture is the fearless Duncan charging forward from right back in front of the Layer Road main stand, rather than his more usual centre half. (The photo is taken looking towards the end away from the entrances and that's part of the original TV gantry , mostly used by Anglia for Match of the Week, in the background.)

Unfortunately in later life Duncan became another victim of the dementia thought likely to have been caused by heading the heavy old footballs.

Thank you KJD and well done - Duncan Forbes, then at Colchester, probably about 1966, in the middle of his 8 years there in which time he made 270 appearances before switching to Norwich where he played another 295 games and reached the top flight.

If there are any faint-hearted ex-strikers looking at these pages, you have been warned. This man took no prisoners.

Thanks all.

Six foot two, eyes of blue, Ducan Forbes is after you (Barclay chant from the 70s).

After Duncan retired he played sunday football for Unity Emeralds. A team in their division wanted to put in a transfer for me.

I was around 15/16 (and I don't think I should have been playing men's football) and thought about the prospect of marking Duncan for corners.

I bottled it and told the team I wasn't interested.

Remembering how fearless he was with is headers and tackles I still think it might have been a good choice.

Towards the end of his time at Norwich he played for the reserves and must have helped so many young players (bit different for today's reserve set up).

In one game, the latest score from the first team was being annouced over the tannoy. Norwich were about the take a throw-in. Dunc said, 'Shhhhshhh'. The crowd, players - including opposition, and ref fell silent upon his command. The game stopped and only continued when Dunc gave the signal to continue.

A great clubman (33 years on and off) and real leader. We could do with him now.

Good teaser Pete.
Destroyed my evening trying to work it out and was convinced it was a Stoke kit, so barking up the wrong tree.
Well done KJD. I never gave Big Dunc a thought, but it's obvious looking at it now!
