I was reading in the man city everton programme that the attendance for this match was seriously low-4,554 in fact- any particular reason? and how does that affect the programme value?
just wondering!

From all accounts it was a miserable evening but the match clashed with the live televised broadcast of Liverpool's European final which was a novelty for the era with few matches televised.
The programme like many others at the moment has gone down in value but would nornally fetch a good price but only made £9.60 on eBay last week

Only 4 clubs in the UK have had 10,000+ at every home league game since 1958 ..... anyone care to make a guess?? A couple are obvious, a couple less obvious

1 or 2 hints in there - 1958 and UK!

I'll go with Man Utd, Everton, Rangers and Aston Villa

Newcastle, Villa and Spurs all dipped under 10,000 in the 80s.

Rangers and Celtic regularly went under 10,000, before the Souness boom and ground rebuilding - both went as low as 3,000 for some end of season games

Correct on Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton

One more to go and 1958 should give you a goodish hint

I was brought up to believe the low attendance was due to fan displeasure and thousands were outside the ground to show their unhappiness. First time I have heard it was due to a televised game. Not saying that I am right but will be unhappy if wrong as my grandad who who as an Arsenal fan told me.

You are 100% correct. From memory it was a protest mainly against Billy Wright's inept management.

The low attendance was attributed to a number of factors that have been stated - mainly due to the dissatisfaction with manager Billy Wright, horrendous weather and the Cup-Winners' Cup live on the TV.

The dissatisfaction with Wright was also expressed by the low attendances against WBA (8,738), Newcastle (13,979) and Leicester (16,435). He did himself no favours by selling fans' favourite Joe Bakerin February. Also, with 5 games to go Arsenal were still not safe from relegation, although it was unlikely to happen.

Wright was sacked that summer.

The ECWC Final game was Liverpool v Borussia Dortmund, played at Hampden and televised so probably was a factor.

Add the fact that it was a midweek rearranged game, postponed fom 9th April 1966 because of a waterlogged pitch, an end of season game with nothing to play for for both teams. Liverpool already had the title sewn up.

Although the lowest crowd for an Arsenal game at Highbury, it is not the lowest for a 1st Division game, that distinction belongs to the Wimbledon v Everton game in January 1993 when just 3039 fans bothered to turn up.

There is a programme for the Arsenal v Leeds 9th April 1966 game, mega rare.

Please don't think I'm doubting you as I'm not - just curious as to the occasions Spurs and Villa attendances didn't reach 10,000.

Are there, perchance, any press photos online of this Arsenal v Leeds game?

It wold be interesting to see a sparsely populated Highbury.
