I see the EFL Cup matches being played tonight by the club reserve teams.

No wonder there, s no sponsor for this competition.

Look at how many team changes from the matches played at the weekend.

Even the championship teams are making up to 9.

As usual its the supporters who dip out.

If this cup is of no interest.......just 'knock it on its head' as noboby wants to win it

Confused Confused Confused

And yet the asshole that run the league still ruin the Mickey Mouse cup by allowing U23 teams in it. WHY!!

That's what the League Cup is for, as tonight proves.

I think your both mistaking the efl cup for the efl trophy.
The cup is the old league cup. No changes to entrants.
The trophy has allowed U23 teams to enter, and it's sponsored by Checkatrade.
As for the 'nobody wants to win it' comment, tell that to the full crowd at St James last night.
The league cup is only of lesser interest to the teams in Europe as it is the 4th priority in the season for these teams. Ironically one of these teams are more than likely to win the cup. Hopefully Newcastle, Sunderland, Hull or Leeds can cause a 'shock' and reward passionate fans craving even the smallest of successes.
As for the trophy changes why not give this a chance for a few years. European lower leagues all have there B team outfits which give youth squads the feel of competition in senior football.
I think the SFA got it right with changing the Challenge cup this year to allow some Welsh and NI teams to play the Scots lower league teams competitively. I would like to see this expanded. Scrap the efl trophy and start the British Challenge Cup/Trophy?. A cup between:
English third and fourth tier
Scottish second, third and fourth tier
Welsh league
NI league

My 'reserve' quote was a tongue in cheek ........

But even the newcastle v preston match had 16 team changes between them.

Who would sponsor a competion with so many 1st team players missing.

By the way well done newcastle for a great result & attendance.

Of course they play preston again at the weekend

The key sponsors in football these days increasingly seem to. E bookies.
With SkyBet having a rights deal with EFL it's unlikely they would agree another bookie put their name to the league cup.

No Newcastle fan but I rather hope you do win it - at least you do the tournament justice. And those fans deserve a trophy.

No mistake here TTA. The EFL Trophy. (Micky Mouse Cup) has been ruined by U23 teams being forced in to it. As I pointed out there is no need for this as the EFL Cup (I call it the League Cup) has been used by the big teams for this anyway. The F.A. have cocked up every competition they run as all they care about is the top few clubs that have a chance of doing well in the Champions League. Just one competition was still ok. (the MM Cup) Now they have forked that one as well.

About the only competition the FA manage to run ethically and with relative efficiency is the FA Vase which, given the nature of the tournament and its geographical scope is quite some doing.

Just a pity their coverage of it on their website is so atrocious.

Can't say the same about the FA Trophy, much of which seems to be shoehorned into the first half of the season - at the expense of league games.

At no point was I defending the throphy. Just pointing out the initial post confused the EFL cup and trophy. The league cup is unchanged and there is still a plethora of supporters who would rip off limbs to see their team lift the old 'league cup'. It's just a shame that in all likelihood it will be won by one of the teams in Europe for which it is the 4th priority of the season.

368 at Newport v Wimbledon tonight, even though County tried to lure fans by reducing admission to a fiver.

547 at Molineux tonight, however, I have to say the football produced by Wolves U23's was far better than the first last Saturday. Just goes to show the difference between a team playing with confidence and one without!!

Well done to the handful of Accrington supporters who made the trip.

Looked a good game at Stamford Bridge. Oxford equalised in the 94th minute before 34 penalties produced a 13-12 win for Chelsea. A healthy crowd of 5,000+ as well!

839 at Leicester inc 231 away fans from Walsall, absolute joke of a competition we also charged £10 to get in (The same as we charged for our League Cup game v Chelsea).

Well we are out as I refused again to wear my lucky scarf ( the real reason for our surge to the top) and Swansea got to blood such great youth talent as Kyle Naughton and Jack Cork with emerging English talent like 27 yo goalkeeper Kristopher Nordfelt and my new favourite name Botti Bia Bi

For our sins we blooded an apprentice right back ( red carded before half time for two yellows) and lost our only fit left back to injury in the second half...

Marvellous...can't wait for next season...

I watched 15 minutes of that one online. No fans behind the goal, lower tier of one stand open, one tiny bit of the upper stand open.
About 200 Oxford fans hemmed in in a corner.

Over 5,000 there, yes, but it looked completely atmosphere-less.

It's a good competition is this - I just hope the temporary inclusion of the unwanted U-23 sides doesn't lead to the tournament's decline.
