Further to my previous email about this particular ticket...

A few days later, a vendor was selling two tickets per game for a number of matches in the 1954 World Cup. As my original ticket hadn't arrived I bid on them - but only to just over £20. The vendor has excellent feedback and has about 3,000 positive feedbacks. They eventually went for about £36 and I got a second chance offer, so am assuming he had a number and is working his way through them. Leave positive feedback, then check his other feedback and there's none yet from the (at least) two purchasers who "pushed" the price up to £37.87. Purchasers were 1***n and a***e, does anyone recognise these?

Anyway, all 3 tickets look and smell authentic, albeit the first one is slightly different to the two purchased as a second offer - they have the final third of the ticket in light shade, and the other 2/3 in a clay colour. The other ticket is all light clay coloured. On the two same tickets (stands) in the bottom left hand corner the word Haustribune has "haust" crossed out and "stock" typed in it's place. On the other ticket there's no such markings (seats)

Do I have 3 kosher tickets for this game, or are any / all of them fake? Any help greatly appreciated.

John

I'm no expert but the smell always does it for me. A few days ago I checked out one of my recent purchases Rangers v Aberdeen SCSF 54 I was doubting it is genuine because of a lack of smell, the staple is brand new and there are no rust marks. It has some slight creasing and one nick but all in all it looks too perfect for an old programme I do think it is genuine though because I trust the seller and he knows his stuff as well and he would spot a fake.

Tickets all smell, feel, and look authentic. Am aware that drying in a low oven can reproduce some of these though.

You're old enough and wise enough to know that people would go to these lengths but I do think you would know the difference. My guess is that if the smell is artificially produced then it won't last.

I have always assumed that most of the 1950 1954 and 1962 World Cup tickets you see on ebay are reproductions/fakes.

For years you never saw these, now they are up every day.

As a litmus test: ask when you ever saw even one ticket for England v USA at the 1950 World Cup. The answer is absolutely never because the fraudsters behind this have never had an original they could copy. Once one surfaces and falls into the wrong hands then you will see this one on offer every week as well.

By the way I just searched on ebay for the tickets you mentioned: I knew even before I looked that they would be from Italy & would have a letter "D" on them

99% sure they are fake, sorry.

The 1954 WC tickets only touch if the number on the bottom right is in large font ie size 18 or the ticket is white. 99% of tickets with small typed number sized 10 or 12 font PROBABLY FAKES.
The three matches to AVOID unless printed on white tickets are England v Uruguay (26th June 1/4 Final), West Germany v Hungary (20th June - NOT FINAL), West Germany v Turkey (17th June)
They originated from South America and can be bought off ITALIAN ebay sellers..

If they are fakes John then that is grounds for a refund because if they are reprints or reproductions the seller has to tell say so otherwise it is misrepresentation which is against the rules.

Any thoughts about this ticket, anyone? Does it look to be an original or more likely not?

It looks to be an original ticket to me, it has a large ticket number to the right and the correct tear off imperfections from where the stub was once attached, also note the blue zig zagging lines only appear on originals tickets, I suppose though that any ticket could be faked this is why I don't really bother with them, with some old paper and a decent printer and old typewriter anything is possible,

It's another fake. The seller puts "Hollywood" down as his location and has multiple accounts. They are from Uruguay and sell fake World Cup 1930 & 1950 items, tickets and posters mainly avoid them like the plague!
If you want a real 1950 World Cup poster I put one on eBay UK only yesterday Wink

It's the typed number in the bottom right corner that gives it away, the faker from Uruguay sold one just like it a few months back. The numbers would be a bigger font on the originals and not typed but printed.

Here's a fake he sold a few months back off one of the accounts used

There is some info here from Agon auctions in Germany.

I actually bought a 1930 World Cup tournament poster years ago from one of those con merchants and Eamonn Fitzmaurice analysed it for me and sent me a report, it was doused in some type of liquid to make it appear old

Any view on this guys - it was bought from a reputable dealer some years ago but not sure it fits with e descriptions within the thread.

Cheers
