29th May 1968

European Cup Final

Att: 92,225

Benfica 1 (Graca), Manchester United 4 (Charlton 2, Best. Kidd)

After extra time (score at 90 minutes: 1-1)

Apologies if this programme has been shown before on these threads. However, it was a momentous night in British football history, partly for the fact that it was the last time I ever wanted Manchester United to win a game of football. Well, I was 12, so very impressionable.

Oh, and the wonderful display of sportsmanship between these 2 players:-

I expect there's a lot of memorabilia from this game on show on our friend's superb Flickr site, so browse away. Wave

!984 European Cup Final

Another iconic LFC evening commemorated by this rare A5 size programme. Although it is actually dated 31/05/1984 I actually picked this up in the stadium on the day of the match (30/05). This night is definitely in my top 3 of favourite Liverpool games attended Thumbs Up

31st May 1989

Football League, Division II - Play Off Final, 1st leg

Att: 16,421

Blackburn Rovers 3 (Gayle 2, Garner), Crystal Palace 1 (McGoldrick)

Palace got out of jail big-time in the first leg, Rovers missing countless chances including a penalty and then Palace's Eddie McGoldrick scored in the 86th minute to give us the all-important away goal. Even then, Simon Garner scored in stoppage time to make it 3-1. Here are two of the crucial Rovers misses - the first a Howard Gayle penalty, the second a Garner volley over the top - followed by Eddie Mc's scrambled effort - his first-ever goal for the club.

Finally the end-of-season league table, just as a reminder to anyone viewing who thinks that league football began with Sky in 1992 - the top 2 were regular visitors to Division II in those days!

Also - the second leg follows on 3rd June - a game I missed as I was heavily into league cricket back then and 3rd June was in the middle of the league season.

Feeling very old - 30 years ago today the 1986 World Cup kicked off in Mexico. Wasn't healthy watching two games per night during A-levels !

Top tournament though. Highlights.....amazing Brazil v. France quarter final. The GOOD Argentina v. West Germany final. Great Denmark team (and classic Hummel kit to match). "The boy Line-acre" and his six goals. Surprise package in Belgium. Oops, almost forgot, Uruguay kicking the living daylights out the Jocks !!!

And of course, the Mexican Wave. Happy days.

1991 and Blackpool’s first play off final.

They met Torquay United in the Division 4 final and lost in a dreaded penalty shoot out.

The did return the next year though and won with another shoot out.

The programme is a 68 page issue which also covers the Division 3 final between Bolton Wanderers and Tranmere Rovers and the Division 2 final between Brighton and Hove Albion and Notts County.

Just after the war, and for the 2nd year running, Blackpool undertook a tour to Sweden and Denmark.

This time they played 5 matches, 3 against Danish opposition and 2 against Swedish opposition.

For the match on 1st June 1948 they played IFK Gothenberg drawing 2-2.

The match was played at the old Gamla Ullevi stadium which was demolished in 2007 and rebuilt keeping the same name.

Programmes were issued for all 5 matches and this is an 8 page issue.

3C at 7.15am here this morning.

Due to roadworks, I have to drive past Pittodrie to work every morning for the next 7 weeks - saw the groundsman going through the gate wrapped up in his anorak, cap and woolly scarf.

We don't really do summer in this part of the world Sad
