The War time League had players 'guesting' for other clubs.

This one is from the football league cup where I notice Evertonian Harry Catterick is playing for Manchester United.

Does anyone have any other examples of players playing for other teams not associated to them?

There were literally hundreds of players who guested for other teams during the war. Players were still contracted to their clubs, however, they were generally stationed around the country and played for a club close to where they were. Check out the website below which gives you details of Wolves players who played 'for others' during the war.

Jack Rollin's book "Soccer at War 1939-1945" is a good source of information on wartime football including guest players.

Also "The Datasport Book of Wartime Football 1939-46" by Gordon Andrews.

As said above too many players to list.

Way too many to list, but among the famous names to appear for Sunderland were Harry Potts, Jackie Milburn, Hughie Gallacher, Bill Nicholson, Johnny Dixon, Stan Mortensen and Albert Stubbins

This link is not definitive but is a good starting point for most clubs.

Pompey had loads of guest players, being a navy town & connections to the army.

In the book "Pompey People" , there,s a list of all the players who played during the war years.

Names of note..

joe fagan
vic buckingham
eddie quigley
george swindin

and of course the great "Ted Drake"

If they had all played at the same time Aldershot would have had the following in the team

Denis Compton, Stan Cullis, Jimmy Hagan, Tommy Lawton, Joe Mercer, Jack Rowley, Frank Swift.
