Pete,
Thanks for spotting my faux pas putting March 1st in February. To be honest I would possibly have carried on doing so well into May Homer
Stupid boy!

2nd March 1968

League Cup Final

Leeds United 1 Arsenal 0 (Cooper)

Att. 97,887

70 years ago (1945/6 season) and a Football League North fixture between Sheffield United and Blackpool.

The programme is a 6 page slim style folded example with just team line ups and fixtures. The rest was made up of adverts including 3 different companies advertising razors and razor blades.

The home side won 4-2 in front of nearly 40,000 spectators with Jock Dodds a former Blades favourite scoring both Blackpool’s goals.

2nd March 1968

Boston United v Kidderminster Harriers

West Midlands League

Four page programme (All viewable on my Twitter page) between two clubs who would both go on to appear in the Football League during the early 2000's. Boston were reigning WML champions at the time and in 1968/9 would be a founder member of the NPL. Kidderminster are still the only club from Worcestershire to play in the Football League

1946 and a County Cup semi final against Marlow played at Loakes Park, Wycombe. The game ended 2-2. Standard four page programme produced by Wycombe for the match.

A rather less eventful match at Elland Road than the clash (literally!) earlier in the season at the Baseball Ground. Mind you, no Frannie Lee in the Rams team to stir things up Smile

Leeds 1
Derby 1 (Archie G)

att: 40,608

3rd March 1974

Football League, Division II

Att: 29,056

Crystal Palace 0, Orient 0

And the back showing 5 recent past Palace players in the O's line-up, and one future player (Heppolette). And my hand-writing and Palace player ratings. This was a terrible season which ended in a second consecutive relegation, but this match was bang in the middle of a 11-match unbeaten home run (PL 11, W 6, D 5, F 16, A 4) which, allied to O's lofty league position at the time - 3rd - swelled the crowd rather. 3 action photos follow.

Think it's Heppolette and Palace's either 3 Peter Wall or 8 Dave Swindlehurst going for a cross, should be no contest but it can't have led to anything.

Jeff Johnson and an O's player (says Heppolette but it isn't - is it Peter Allen?)

Mick Hill and Tom Walley in ardent pursuit

63 years ago (1952/3 season) and a Division 1 fixture between Burnley and Blackpool.

The programme, for a Tuesday fixture, was just 4 pages but without any adverts.

Blackpool won 1-0 with Perry getting the only goal.

The attendance was 20,874.

60 years ago in the Third Division (North)

Bradford Park Avenue 2
Derby County 4

att: 11,530

I came across a video taken by someone last year which, rather poignantly, shows there are still traces of the terracing at Park Avenue to be found (and the old urinals!) even to this day.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBNVEqoL6wY

There's something very sad about seeing an abandoned football stadium.

3rd March 1973

Derby County 2 Leeds United 3 - Div 1

Att. 38,462 or 38,100 according to what I have

Another bloody broadsheet and unfortunately this one has been folded. Durban & Hector for Derby, Leeds shading it with goals by Lorimer (2) & Clarke

Staying local....

3rd March 1990

Northern Counties East Football League Premier Division!

Belper Town v Sheffield FC

Quite a decent programme this one, not too many adverts and plenty to read. No doubt this programme made the top three in the NCEFLPD!

The clubs Twitter page has the heading...

The 'Nailers' - knocking 'em in since 1883.

If you happen to read this Steve, thank you for humiliating me in the Predictor League! Bottom in three leagues my eye Laughing

Did Franny win on points?
Or was Norman just taken by surprise?

Kent Walton should have been the commentator!

38,462 according to my records, Mal

Hmmm...looks my my new tactic of "decide what you think the score will be and then submit the complete opposite" worked then, did it? Smile

4th March 1950

Football League, Division III (South)

Att: 15,217

Swindon Town 4 (Jones 2, Dawson, Onslow), Crystal Palace 2 (Kurz 2)

Fred Kurz seemed to score every time I put up a programme in this era, so here's someone else who played in this game - player manager Ronnie Rooke

72 years ago (1943/4 season) and a War Cup 1st Rd tie between Blackpool and Everton.

This match also counted towards the Northern Section 2nd Competition.

The programme is a standard war time issue, printed on flimsy paper, and just showing the team line ups with the usual RHO Hills advert on the back cover.

Blackpool won 7-1 with goals from Dix 3, Dodds 2 and Mortensen 2.

For anyone who has the latest Breedon's Blackpool Complete Record, the dates of the home and away fixtures against Everton have been listed the wrong way around.

Thank you for confirming the attendance Steve.

Might try your tactic in the Predictor League this week. Yes, you beat me 13-7, known these days as a 'Mullering' I believe Laughing

4th March 1957

Floodlit Friendly

Leeds United v Banik Ostrava

Four pager in an attractive shade of orange, all four pages on my Twitter

4th March 1972

Leeds United 7 Southampton 0

Att. 34,275

Just cannot believe this was 44 years ago. Goals scored by Clarke (2) Lorimer (3) Charlton & Jones. Leeds setting a new record for possession in the last few minutes (100%)

Creased, stained, punched holes....fair to say this one has seen better days.
But haven't we all....

I hope they had a big boardroom at Grays to fit all those officials into.

5th March 1949

Football League, Division III (South)

Att: 9,856

Crystal Palace 2 (Clough 2), Aldershot 1 (Sears)

By coincidence featured in this programme on Page 2, two-goal Jimmy Clough - who never scored for Palace again after this match and was sold to Southend at the end of the season.

This undated photo could be 5th March 1949 or the same fixture on 29th October 1949 - the players mentioned played in both games in those numbers, the kits were the same in both games (Palace - claret & blue; Shots - blue & white), even the score was the same. All I would say is, the pitch looks too good for March, so it may be the October 1949 match. Any thoughts?

Everything Barca are doing now Steve is actually down to Leeds United Shake

50 years ago today - 5th March 1966

Northampton Town 2 Leeds United 1 - Div 1

Att. 21,548

Leeds literally played 'Cobblers'

O'Grady with our goal. Northampton would go on to finish one off the bottom and get relegated, Leeds finishing one off the top

If anyone has a spare in VGC without any writing please get in touch
