68 years ago today.

FA Cup quarter-final and a home tie for the giant killers.

QPR 1
Derby 1 (Billy Steel)
att: 28,000

8 page programme issued by the home side is a bit of a "Cup Special" edition, dispensing with the usual fixture lists and tables and giving full details (including photographs) of both teams. Modestly, the editor refers to QPR's "good" Cup run.

Pick Publications also issued a very readable 32 page photographic souvenir to commemorate the match - as this has programme-style line-ups in the centre pages, it isn't quite a pirate programme but something close to it. Interesting to see the players in training, in discussion with the manager...and helping out with carpentry repairs to the stand seats! Can't imagine today's players doing that. At only a shilling it's a great read.

Players still numbered 1 to 22.
Even in 1948.

I wonder how many we'll get today? This is the only CPFC game I can find on 29th Feb between 1940 and 1981.

29th February 1964

Football League, Division III

Att: 15,421

Crystal Palace 0, Colchester United 0

A repro photo but signed by the wonderful Pete Burridge who's seen here being thwarted by U's keeper Percy Ames.

I do remember playing Notts County at home on a 29th February - would have been 1992, so post 1981. Cannot remember another 29 Feb game for Palace.

29th February 1964

This also appears to be the 1st season since the war with a 29th February Blackpool programme.

52 years ago and a Central League fixture between Blackpool reserves and Bolton Wanderers reserves.

The programme is a single sheet printed by Blackpool’s local paper, the Evening Gazette, with match details on the front and team line ups on the reverse.

Blackpool won 2-1.

This day in 1936 was a Saturday but, alas, I don't have that programme.

1964 - Finchley 5 Maidenhead 0 - Athenian League Premier Division

1992 - Maidenhead 1 Walton & Hersham 2 - Isthmian League Division 1

2000 - Billericay 1 Maidenhead 1 - Isthmian League Cup semi-final 1st leg

We also played games on this day in 1872, 1876, 1896 and 1908 but I don't think programmes exist for those matches.

As we won't get chance after today to post programmes on this particular day for another 4 years, I will take the liberty of posting another.

Whilst Blackpool reserves were entertaining Bolton reserves at Bloomfield Road, the 1st team were in London visiting Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The programme is a 12 page issue with rather a lot of adverts.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw draw with Graham Oates scoring for the Seasiders.

Brentford v Birmingham City, 29 February 1936.

The Blues won 1-0. "Sheer Football Robbery!!"

This was all in a recent Brentford home programme, of which I write all the articles for. Smile
